Help-HRT following endometrial ablation
« on: April 21, 2019, 08:30:52 AM »

Hello ladies

Not posted for a while and have been trying to cope with all these Meno symptoms naturally. Find I'm fighting a losing battle! Am 7 years post meno.

Took myself to docs and have been prescribed Gel and Utrogestin which I have not yet started.

My question is, I had an endometrial ablation about ten years ago but unfortunately got an infection afterwards which has left me with a womb full of scar tissue. My worry is that if I start taking this HRT I am likely to have a monthly bleed but am worried that with all the scar tissue the look won't be able to escape!

A weird question I know but has anyone else had experience of this? I don't want to start more problems......

Thanks

If you're on daily utro rather than 12 days a month you shouldn't get a bleed. Are you taking utro orally or vaginally? just wondered if the the scar tissue might stop it being absorbed normally if you use it vaginally.

Hi Sheila

Thanks for your reply. I haven't started taking it yet as am the biggest worrier and want to find out more before I do.Don't want to be creating more problems,

I have heard that if you take it continuously you don't get a bleed, I would rather take it vaginally as am prone to side effects with progesterone , but I agree it may not work properly that way.

Think I will have to see a gynae to get my questions answered but it's hard to find one who is pro HRT so I can get a balanced view. My existing one is v much against but then he is a man!

Thought I'd ask here first to see if anyone has had similar experience.

Hello westie.

I agree with sheila99 in that if you take the Utrogestan daily you won't have a bleed as your womb lining will be kept thin. This applies whether you take it orally or vaginally. Having said that I can understand your concerns about scar tissue and with any HRT regime spotting may occur initially which may be a worry.

If I were you I'd do some research and speak to a consultant about your circumstances. You may also want to email Dr Currie and ask her advice. On the plus side you can't be the first woman to present with this problem and you won't be the last so there must be information out there,  you just have to track it down.

Btw I also tried to power through the meno naturally but after three years I asked for help and began using HRT. I'm now nine years since my last period and still fiddling with my dosage. They say the whole transition can take about seven years so hopefully we are on the home stretch!

Wishing you well and keep us updated.

K.

PS Just about to post this and I see you have already given it much thought. Perhaps an email to Dr Currie would  be the best place to start?  Hopefully ladies with similar experiences will be along shortly.

Hi Kathleen

Thank you so much for your reply.

Yes am sure I can't be the only one in this situation. I will make an appointment to see a consultant  and go from there.

Thanks again

I use HRT with no problem and I've had an ablation but I haven't got scar tissue as you do (or at least I assume I haven't) so not much help really but part of me thinks you won't know until you try ...I am on a sequi regime but don't bleed xx

I think I am probably overthinking as usual -another lovely meno symptom! Maybe I should just give it a go and see what happens.

Thanks for your help ladies much appreciated.
