Vagina issues
« on: April 07, 2019, 10:06:27 AM »

Hi ladies I wonder if you could offer some help regarding issues down below.
Lately I have been having dryness through out the month with what now feels like cystitis, it's so sore that I have to get up to take some pain relief to help with the feeling.
Iam perimenopausel will be 51 in a month still having period but are irregular.
Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

I agree with Countrygirl.  Vagifem really does make a difference. You need a two week load and then some ladies need every other day. I do okay with Monday, Wednesday and Friday

Thank you ladies I appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
It's so difficult when you don't know what's going on or what to use.
My doc has given me a script for Ovestin but have not got that yet.
Have any of you tried this or any knowledge of this?

I have been using Ovestin for 5 months. It's a cream and you have to wash the applicator.  Most on here seem to be on vagifem, which is a pessary.  I find Ovestin ok but it takes a while to be effective, like vagifem, depending how bad you are.  I use alternate nights.

Read our threads about vaginal atrophy.  Make Notes!  Then hi-tail it to your GP and ask for appropriate vaginal atrophy treatment. Let us know how you get on!  Some ladies need 'yes' or 'sylc' products to help .........

Similar idea but delivered into the vagina differently [by applicator]  ;)

Hormonal blood tests need to be taken at 'certain' times in order to get a 'reading' - what ever that might mean.  My Gynae won't do them because hormones rise and fall all the while.  Also, VA is 'different' to other symptoms and can be treated locally, appropriately.

As oestrogen levels drop the body may become dry: inside and out  >:(::) - skin, eyes, deep in the ears, vagina ...........

Thanks CLKD , I have certainly experienced the dry skin and dry eyes as well as the dryness below.
Doc has given me HRT to try but she has given me Evorel Sequi. I don't know if this would be to high a dose for first hrt as blood test say hormones normal. Periods irregular and having night sweats and joint pain. Xx

I had about 10 years of frequent UTI's before I found out about VA and vagifem. I used Estriol first for a short period but it irritated me. Vagifem is working much better. I need it about 5-6 times a week. I started using it last autumn and haven't had another UTI since November.

Blood tests are notoriously unreliable in the peri stage as hormone levels fluctuate so much, I have never been offered them for that reason.
I started with VA in the peri stage and used Ovestin to begin with, it worked well but I asked for Vagifem later on and prefer that one.

Yes it is really helpful.  Since I was diagnosed with VA over 2 years ago, this forum has been such a support and information.  As I said I use Ovestin but as so many on here use vagifem I wonder if that might be better for me.  I did use vagifem in the early days but only for a while.
