Ambulance wait time
« on: April 03, 2019, 10:42:36 PM »

One of my OH retired colleagues has been ill so he and another friend went to visit him, however as they were leaving she collapsed. Because they don't know why she collapsed and was unconscious they phoned for an ambulance, that was 6 hours ago and they are still waiting  >:(

That's far too long did they try the Police?  Firemen are 2nd responders too.  They could have rung the Hospital to get advice ......... was she conscious, breathing etc.?

Update of what I know so far, Six and a half hours after the first of many 999 calls the paramedics turned up, she was taken to the large local hospital for tests. She has had a bleed on her brain and has been transferred from Swansea to Cardiff.

I have been reading about ambulance response times in Wales, I don't know if they are the same in the rest of the U.K., unless it's a heart attack, chocking or bleeding you are not a priority.  I would have thought a stroke would be a Red call, aren't we told about "golden hour" .

Our NHS are brilliant but shockingly bad at the same time.

We've been told she's having more tests and scans but is more herself today, it's such a relief   :)

This should be raised with her GP and maybe contact the Ambulance Service to see what could have been done, not in a confrontational way as they will be unhappy about the situation too - we know that they are over-stretched, not only with a high level of calls but due to the amount of new housing causing more traffic!!  Watching emergency services earlier this evening trying to negotiate traffic  :-\ - there are helicopter support services but again, they are short of GP cover.

Was the GP called for example?  Or the local fire service for support?

It's a shame an emergency doctor wasn't sent but I don't think it as offered. She's had an operation to relieve pressure on her brain today  :'(

Karen is not overweight and fit, she cycles, walks and paddle boards, she's 61 year old, but if you met her you would never guess her age, working with young people keeps you young. Everyone is in shock today that this has happened to her.

Certainly this needs following up but those that called emergency services, GP etc..   Then let us know what we should do, options etc.?

Ohh Two Hoots sorry to hear that, hope she makes a good recovery.
When my son fainted and hit his head in school (Wales & we were miles away when we got call) they called an ambulance the rapid response paramedic turned up very quickly but no ambulance available, eventually sent one that didn't have blue lights and from out of area & no paramedic on board so the rapid response paramedic had to go in ambulance with car following just in case. I made a formal complaint and had a letter plus a visit from them where they explain everything and you can ask any questions it was a good session we both got something out of it, well worth following up.

As a meander, there's a film going round about the fire service unable to get down a narrow road due to cars badly parked  >:(

Yes I've seen that, some people have no consideration just want to park as close as they can get to home, work etc

Apparently a ? rugby ? player had a shoulder/rib injury during a match and had to wait 90 mins. B4 the Ambulance arrived.  The Ground is 10 mins. from the Hospital but he was in too much pain to move .

After Karen was in surgery all day on Friday we were told this evening she's off the ventilator, hopefully this is the start of her recovery  :)
