Testosterone

I had a hysterectomy six years ago and have been on oestrogen since then. I have noticed that my 50mcg estrodot patch not working so well as night sweats are back with a vengeance and aches and pains worse so I started to add one measure of oestrogel every other day but today I feel worried that I don't no how much oestrogen I'm actually using and is it really testosterone I need instead ?

If you are getting night sweats etc returning and there is no other reason for them ( eg thyroid function, diabetes etc - think that also causes temp regulation dysfunction) then you do need to increase oestrogen. If you've had a hysterectomy do you know where you are in menopause - or perhpas you also had your ovaries removed? If you kept them then the hot flushes are an indication you are further towards menopause, and need more oestrogen. If you had a surgical menopause maybe you've lost a lot of weight recently? This would reduce the amount of ostrogen available to the body ( estrone is stored in fat cells and can be converted to estradiol in the body).

Once your (hormonal) sweats and flushes are controlled then testosterone may well help. An indication that this mught be needed would firstly be low or no libido but as T levels decreased you may feel fatigued, with muscle aches and pains especially after exercise.

Maybe increase to 1 pump per day too if your doc is in agreement?

My regular GP also said I shouldn't be on HRT post 60 (I saw her about 5 years ago) - I won't repeat what she actually said - so I have not been to see her since but go either to her job share or the very part-time gynae specialist GP - who has prescribed testsoterobne following my private appt 4 years ago!  I'm almost 66 and still going strong as are others in their 60's. Don't be browbeaten against your will! That magic number (60) doesn't mean anything any more - it is just an arbitrary division used to analyse the data from the now discredited WHI HRT trials.

It's strange though that your flushes have returned so long after menopause. I think we've discussed this before? Have you had other investigations eg blood tests to check there isn't something else causing the night sweats? Did you say you had ovaries removed too?
