Femoston-conti issues Need some help please
« on: March 14, 2019, 09:59:38 AM »

Hi all been reading lots of threads on Femoston conti and cant find what I need to know.
Due to issues with my GP feel I cant ask her atm. Currently looking for a more helpful one ::)
Anyway back to questions lol
My gynae specialist put me on femoston sequi 2/10 for a six months to see how I coped with the progesterone etc,
Anyway 3 months ago he switched me to conti 1/5 x2 as he said it was the closest match to what I was taking.
Had light spotting which I expected but yesterday bled for the first time it has eased now so dont think it is an issue yet as still settling.
However I am starting for feel tearful and anxious most days at some points some days more than others. Not liking this at all as not me.
Wondering if maybe the dose is too much? or what the issue could be.  Can anyone give me some pointers please as my husband says I am obviuosly unhappy and he feels helpless.
Thanks in advance.

It was a good call by your doc to try you on sequi HRT before changing you to conti to see how you got on with the prog part. However 2/10 is what you were taking cyclically and now 2/10 is what you are taking daily - so you are now having twice as much progestogen because as Stellajane says, you are taking it continuously. What suits you intermittently may well not suit you all the time because there is no break from it and the progestogenic side effects (headache, bloating, tender boobs, tiredness, low mood, pms symptoms) can build up.

I would go with her suggestion and go back to cyclical HRT. I expect your doc put you on conti because you are post-menopausal but there is no compulsion to be on this once you are past menopause. It's a toss-up between enduring the progestogenic side effects on the one hand or a withdrawal bleed and progesterone withdrawal symptoms on the other - the up-side of the latter being about 10 days of oestrogen only without bleeding or withdrawal when hopefully you feel great -  just like in your fertile years!

Hi thanks both of you for your replies.  :D
I did wonder if there was too much progesterone, Have a phone consult this morning with a new GP who has gynae experience will discuss this with him. But yes may well go back to sequi or try without and see where I am then reconsider things.

Or you could try the ultra low dose:
Femoston conti low dose   Estradiol 0.5mg, Dydrogesterone 2.5mg

Just another option - good luck & keep us posted.

Hi just had phone consult with GP who said that I could drop down to 1/5 and see how that went for 3 weeks. This dosnt seem long enough to me  to see proper results but hey ho. Also thought I might drop to 1 1/2 pills daily for a month then drop down to the 1/5.
Any thoughts on this?  Good or bad idea I'm not sure but he seemed reluctant to discuss options.

I see what you are saying but our surgery does phone consults now only see a GP if they think necessary :)
I also dont think dropping to less oestrogen would be good but will give it a go. I have not ruled anything out yet and may go back to sequi after this trial.
But may as I said give myself a break for a while to see how it goes.

Hi Fairlady.
I'm on femoston conti. I take 1.1/2 mg every day..
I'm ok on them, but sometimes some of my symptoms come back, so I double up to 2/10 mg, but only for about 3/4 days, or as needed, then when the prog gets too much, I drop back down to 1.1/2 mg again....this has been working for me for a good while now.
No bleeding or anything...(touch wood...lol)
I've had to play around with them to get the relief I needed. It seems to be the best prog for me... good luck, let us know how your getting on....xxx
