......... and breath.  If you wake, do the relaxation from toes upwards.  By the time you get to your knees you'll be asleep.

choc57, there's one other thing you could try. As we get older our body's ability to produce melatonin, the sleep hormone, decreases. My menopause clinic suggested Melatonin for me, as I was having chronic insomnia. I take 2mg of Circadin a night, a Melatonin that is available on prescription from your GP. It's well worth a try as it induces a lovely sleep and gets you back to normal.

Thank you both. I've made an appointment with a GP so will see if she'll give me Circadin.
Yesterday I bought Boots own brand of Nytol a herbal remedy which is supposed to aid sleep. I did feel a bit whoozy after about half an hour of taking it so went straight to bed. However I then lay awake for over an hour without sleep and once I did fall asleep I was waking as usual. So no luck there.
I'll try the relaxing tactic and see if that helps me and I've got 4 weeks to wait for my appointment so will continue with the magnesium and herbal remedy.
Melatonin sounds marvellous. I would just love a whole night's sleep. Once more today I have a twitching eye through lack of sleep.....it's so annoying. Thank you for all your helpful suggestions x :)
