Evorel vs Oestrogel
« on: February 07, 2019, 12:16:26 PM »

I emailed Dr. Curry to ask whether she thinks it would be worth changing from Evorel  patches to Oestrogel, not because I'm not absorbing with patches but because a number of women on here seemed to feel that Oestrogel worked much better for them in general. Her response was that in theory they are exactly the the same thing, so it seems unlikely they'd be tolerated differently. But the anecdotal evidence on here suggests otherwise. Don't know what to do now - can any  of you who really feel there's a difference reply please so I can get back to her with some evidence? Thanks. Oh and she did agree that my estrogen level may be too high now anyway, so will try reducing that once I'm through the nightmare of Utrogestan withdrawal.

Morning racjen - so glad you are feeling well enough to face asking qustions - so happy to have you back out from under the duvet 😘 :)

its a tough one - you can only trust your gut and your past experiences and line it up alongside what you have read and tried before.  I don't think there ever is actual "evidence" that it would be better we are all so different. I have idea why femeston, and everol (oh and the others I tried) were not right for me much less been able to prove it if I had to.  All of them are supposed to be the same thing in THEORY but as you say anecdotal evidence here definitely says otherwise!!! ::)
My only comment which I have made before is that all along you have only ever tried evorel patches and no other type of delivery method so my personal view would be why not try - there can be no harm - and until you try you will never know - no one would be able to guarantee how it worked
and the other would be from a personal experience I found gel much more flexible to use in terms of dose cos you don't need to keep running to the GP if you up it or drop it.  (...well you do if you up it cos you need more repeat prescriptions cos you use more, but you get my drift).

Thanks for the replies - to clarify, I'm not really asking about whether you've found absorption better with the gel, as I have no problem with absorbing from Evorel  patches. In fact if anything I seem to be particularly efficient at it...My question was more about having read stories on here from women who felt that, despite the patches apparently working, they didn't really get a therapeutic effect until they switched to gel. So the idea that there's a qualitative difference between the estrogen in the two different products, not just the method of delivery. But maybe I misunderstood and they were talking about absorption only.

Hi Racjen
Think I've got this right, about your question...
I'm on femoston conti, and last summer started on Sandrena gel.
And I can tell you I felt absolutely brilliant on it.. it made me feel like I was 21 again.(well, not really, but you know what I mean).... I had loads n loads energy, felt level headed, no aches n pains, it was great....and most importantly I didn't have any mood swings.
It's the best I've been in 4/5years..
However, it does seem strong, and because I felt so good, didn't realise I was having too much until I started to feel a bit poorly, just didn't feel myself, this was after about 3/4 months, so I stopped it, and within a couple days felt much better, didn't get on very well with the Utrogestan, so I went back on the Femoston Conti. In hindsight, I should have maybe just reduced the Sandrena and changed the prog to one of the others, but you get scared don't you.?

Hi I tried the oestrogel and really didn't get on with it. It made me feel un well . I didn't like the amount of stuff you were rubbing in. I find Patches so much easier

I don't think it is qualative difference either racjen.  It could be absorption.  You put the gel on your thighs or your upper arms.  You rub it in.  There is fair amount of gel in 2 pumps (depends how many pumps you are on - I'm on 4 so quite a lot of gel!)  Therefore the spread of it is across just bigger than an A 5 sheet of paper as you rub it in so in terms of absorption it is covering a fair area so much bigger than a patch.

There is supposed to be no difference in the oestrogen or absorption but there is.  I couldn't use everol patches - any of them sequi or conti - they made me feel horrible.  The gel was different and I knew it was better for me within 3 weeks.
Femeston tablets made me feel worse than PrempackC and in Tridestra tablets the oestrogen was ok but I couldn't manage the oral progesterone part at all.  Each type affects each one of us differently although it shouldn't - its not so much they various types are different but that each one of our bodies is different.

I've been on both and didn't notice any difference. I changed because I got a rash under the patch.
