CLKD - did you GP prescribe this - the things I do not get it is that if I have osteoporosis and am Vit D deficit why are they only recommend 1,000mg (which is quite a standard over the counter dose) - surely I should be on a higher more intensive level like you CLKD?
Great information from Sparkle in pointing you to The Vitamin D Council.

As for the 1000 iu dose recommended, you're right in that really is a maintenance dose rather than a therapeutic dose.
It seems that not all doctors are up to date in current thinking - daily dosing of 10 000 iu is more like it.
I joined a Vitamin D deficiency and treatment group on Facebook. They have files of science/research based information to read. It might be worth looking up Dr Coimbra's Protocol as a starting point.
I was lucky to have the support of my GP, who had prescribed 3200 iu, but monitored my bloods whilst I took 10 000 iu. I raised my level from 29 nmol/L to 152nmol/L in six months.
I have an autoimmune disease and the Rheumatologist I see is aware that I still take a high dose (4000iu) as I'm more at risk of a Vitamin D deficiency and osteoporosis.
Hopefully your GP will help you - in view of your osteoporosis I'm wondering if you have you had your Parathyroid levels checked?
