Anyone felt depressed on estradot 50 with 200mg Utrogestan
« on: October 30, 2018, 07:27:37 PM »

Hi all
I am 41 years old and have early menopause
Was on Femoston 2/10 till the end of August and decided to change as had anxiety.
Have been on estradot 50 patches and Utrogestan 200mg taken at night for 12 days each month since August.
Ever since I have started my moods have been really low and they hit a new low this week. I have an appointment with the gynecologist on Friday but thinking of going back to the tablets. At least my mood was controllable and was taking a low dose of propranolol to control the anxiety.
Anyone experience this while on this regime.
All advice would be appreciated

Hi and welcome to mm

It is trial and error. Femoston is a good hrt to be on and though Utrogestan is hailed by many as the ideal progesterone it doesn't suit everyone. The oestrogen in both Femoston and the patches is essentiallly the same but many women do well with the progesterone in Femoston. Utrogestan is known to have quite a sedative effect although you could try using it vaginally to reduce side effects.
If low mood and anxiety started with the menopause then hrt can help but it tends to be a range of strategies that will improve mood - eg good diet with plenty of exercise and relaxation techniques. Hrt doesn't fix everything.
Do learn to do Mindfulness or other relaxation techniques and go for brisk walks where you can see plenty of nature. Meet with friends regularly and treat yourself to things that make you feel good.
If you found things were better on the Femoston then go back to that - popping one pill per day is easier to manage anyway.
The other alternative that could  work better for you would be to have a Mirena fitted and have the patches alongside - you could also try a higher dose of oestrogen that might help with your anxiety. The Mirena usually means no bleeding at all after the first few weeks which can be a big plus and reduces the fluctuations in PMT and mood issues.

Hi dancing girl
Thank you for all that advice
Had an appointment with gynecologist and decided to change back to Femoston 2/10
Fingers crossed it improves my mood.
