How in heaven is moving to a house with a view having a mid-life crisis?  What type of view?  Sea view, mountain view, fields, high rise view, park view?  Have you lived in your house a long time?  I wouldn't put moving under Jillydolls "small change".  Climbing Everest, buying a motorbike, joining a commune, living off grid.... umm building a house? - that's more my idea of a mid-life crisis.  My friend bought herself a bright red 3 wheeled trike type thing... she is 5" 1" (absolutely not heightest me...she's my best friend and I love her dearly..) but her feet didn't touch the ground and she literally had to leap to get onto it - I have to say her very best friends labelled that a midlife crisis!!  Quite a sight to behold but I wouldn't mess with her! lol

Hi Ladybt, Yes I can empathise with your comments about being "unemployable" as I`ve done the same career all my working life and wonder if I`ll be able to do anything else!. Basically I fell into the Travel Industry after Uni as I didn`t have a clue what I wanted to do and it was a way of getting cheap holidays!  8) So I`ve drifted along doing the same ole thing which has got less and less rewarding (no free holidays any more!) thinking better the devil you know etc. Suddenly at 55 the meno zaps my brain and I`ve got to change my life in some way so what is the thing I have control over - yes work for starters. Would like to retrain in horticulture as I`ve finally decided I need to be outdoors and not cooped up in an office looking at the outdoors. But meanwhile I`ll bite the bullet and try anything to keep the pennies rolling in I reckon. I can`t believe that I`m a sociable person and I`ve spent the last 18 years working alone. How did that happen?!? No wonder I got depressed!    ;D

I was watching a programme recently Dancing Queen about community gardens - of course I can't remember which programme  :-\ but maybe offer your services to a similar project in your area?  I would be lost without my garden and have to have a pond area where ever I am.

View - doesn't matter.  We've been here over 35 years.  I'm in crisis  :'(

Hi CLKD, Yes, I took a month off in the Summer and volunteered at a local National Trust garden and really loved it. But they very rarely have paid jobs up for grabs. If I could afford to retire properly there are loads of community projects and suchlike I would like to get involved in but unfortunately I need proper paid work to survive - harder to come by!  The solution would be for there to be 48 hours in a day and I could do both... can anyone arrange that?  ;)

I talked with a lady a few years back: aged 70 she had sold the family home and bought a 2 bed flat on the coast for them all to use whilst she went on cruises.  As she said, there's full medical care, full laundry service, B&B with evening meal, trips off the boat if she wants ......... she's been round the World once already.  Cheaper than a Care Home.

Go for it and keep dancing!

I would love to do more dancing, my weekly Zumba class is great and I just lose myself for that hour and it's not gentle!

Life is short, do what makes you happy even if it's a small change.
