Have been prescribed Sertraline
« on: October 23, 2018, 03:22:08 PM »

I wont go into all my history,as I've put that on other posts. But I had to stop HRT for side effect reasons.

But I am suffering with depression and bad anxiety alongside Meno symptoms.

My GP has today prescribed me 1/2 a 50mg tablet daily of Sertraline. She said it will help with anxiety as well as being good for meno problems. She will call me in 4 weeks time for a chat and see if I am ready to increase the dosage. She has started me low, as I always seem to suffer with bad side effects from meds.

But now I see that many ladies on here say this is a really bad drug. So I'm scared. Did anybody out there find it helped them? I dont want to find that it increases my anxiety, as I am all alone and its already bad enough.

Anybody have some good results with it at all?

Hello ali 61

Sorry to say that I can't help you with your enquiry but I wanted to sends hugs anyway!

I know how nerve racking it can be when we are asked to try something new,  probably because we are already in a nervous state and desperate for relief.

I'm sure you'll soon have comments from ladies that I using Sertraline and hopefully they can reassure you.

Take care.

K.

Oh ali this is a really difficult one and I empathise with you so much. For me sertraline wasn't a good move, but i can't tolerate ADs in general, have tried 8 or 9 different ones, so I'm not a good person to advise. I have to say though that my daughter takes it with no problem whatsoever and I've seen it make a big difference for her with anxiety, depression and OCD. So i wouldn't rule it out - the problem is you have no idea whether you'll be able to tolerate it until you try it. If you can't tolerate HRT then maybe you should give it a go, it might really help.

I'm the same with SSRI meds in that I can't tolerate them. They sent my anxiety into orbit. Unfortunately this is one of the harsher ones and increased anxiety is common as a start up effect. BUT everyone is different

My daughter was prescribed sertraline but wasn't told to expect a big rise in symptoms (anxiety) until it kicks in, she came off it suddenly within the first week after having her first ever panic attack.

So, it could well work for you but you should be aware that you may feel worse before you feel better x

Ironically I caught up with my daughter this morning, she is on day 6 I think of sertraline (2nd attempt) and by agreement of gp has started on half a tablet and she so far isn't experiencing anything negative x

My friend had good benefit in about 2009.  No side effects that she couldn't handle.  After 6 weeks she felt well again.
