I had a sore big toe one time.
As if I'd really banged it up the sofa or somewhere, really sore,
Lasted about 2/3 days, then the next morning couldn't move around very well,
had to come down the stairs holding onto the rail, and side ways, couldn't bend well,
every movement hurt like crazy, even my gums hurt when I eat anything,
As for going up stairs to toilet, or to bed, I had to crawl up.
Just couldn't believe what was going on, it was like I was 100 years old or something...
Went to the doctor, he said at the time don't know what it is, took bloods, and said
it's like you've got a really bad flare up of arthritis, (but I don't have arthritis,)
And he referred me off to a specialist.
Bloods came back and nurse said that ( whatever they were looking for) was really really high, almost off the scale, by the time my appointment came through for the specialist I'd got better.! Not a stiff joint, or pain anywhere!
Specialist said that he thought I'd caught some kind of virus, and it had done that to me!

So maybe you could have something like that, just a thought...

Keancy, slightly off topic (sorry) but I was just about to start taking L-theanine.  Can I ask what dosage you were on?

Jillydoll, I am quietly hoping it is/was a virus and that it will pass.

As for the L-theanine I was taking 1 x 400mg every morning successfully for months then recently I stopped those and took 2 x magnify at night ( it's zinc, L-theanine and magnisium) I think the magnify may not be agreeing with me so I now only take plain magnisium at night since last Wednesday.

I feel slightly better and have managed not to sleep in the daytime for two days now but still don't think I have the energy to return to work yet.

Morning all

I have just returned from the GP, all but the Thyroid Bloods have returned and all my Bloods have returned normal. The GP is suggesting I may have chronic Fatuige Syndrome which in itself is bringing me down.

He also suggested a very, very low dose of Sertraline (also known as Zoloft)

I am considering trying this but I have several questions to other ladies here???

Does this interact with my current HRT (Sandrena Gel)? Is anyone else on both HRT and AD?? How are you faring with this??

I hate AD and the thought of it but over the last 2 weeks I have been having some rather unpleasant thoughts and I worry about my mental health to be honest.

I want to say something about my own experiences and maybe ask Hurdity something about a comment she made on the post on All Things Menopause - Utrogestan again.

I have discovered that I have always had problems with my hormones which were never treated hormonally until I started with the menopause.  When I was 26 (1988!) I was diagnosed with ME (or chronic fatigue syndrome as its known now - or Yuppie Flu as it was called then).  I got pregnant soon after and during my pregnancy I had very very extreme tiredness bordering on narcolepsy (falling immediately asleep for no reason). The tiredness washed over me and I had to sleep immediately or nearly immediately - I went out like a light (not good when you are driving or at work).  My son was premature at 32 weeks (he also tried to make an appearance at 26 weeks - scary) weighing 4lb1.

I have been diagnosed with CFS and fibromyalgia (chronic pain) I have been told I have "clinical depression" and "I'm stuck with it" and I have suffered from anxiety.  I was put on anti-depressants for 38 years, I have had counselling, CBT, one to one, I have had very strong painkillers and morphine patches until I gave it all up 3 years ago.  I had bad periods starting at 12 (when the depression and bad PMT started).  There is loads more - postnatal depression another baby - both of mine I was preeclapsic.....

Some of the HRT has stopped some of those symptoms some of the time.  I havet really got it under control but it is moving.

Hurdity - you said in that post that when we are pregnant we have tiredness due to our changing hormone levels but that the oestrogen balances it out so we can cope. Could it be that my homone levels were always up the left and I couldnt balance anything out and that during my pregnancies they really could not cope causing all the issues I had both times interestingly enough and after?  I have had bloods - no arthritis, thyroid problems etc etc so no one has ever found any underlying conditions.

I would like to explore the theory that the fibro diagnosis (mainly in women) Chronic fatigue, chronic ongoing depression and anxiety in some women etc etc Keancy's problem joints for example and other random unexplained undiagnosable by dr symptoms might very well be down to chronic hormone imbalance throughout our lives - although some do only surface with the meno when dr's are truly focused on hormone imbalance.  I do have to be generous to the Dr's because hormone imbalance and PMT etc etc were never really a thing 38 years ago - but my sufferings over the last 15 - they really have no excuse.

Does anyone think this could be a theory or have I really gone off my meno head today?  :stupid:  I'm always looking for answers - there are so many unexplained things we women suffer from - there has to be a reason well I think so anyway.

Not just a good theory but very very similar to my own story - period troubles throughout my life, CFS, fibro, anxiety, tiredness - all of which went through the roof in the last few years.  HRT alone is not enough for me but I strongly suspect it is the root cause of most of these issues exacerbated by life events.

Small add to earlier post;

I have discussed 5HTP with my GP this morning too and all though he said he doesn't know a great deal about it he googled it straight away while I was with him. I have decided to try 5HTP for the next week or so and see how I fare before jumping at AD which is more of a Long term commitment.
