5 weeks in. Is it too early to think its not working?

I am 5 weeks into Eostrogen gel (2 pumps one each arm before bed) and Utrogeston days 19-26. I have felt better but the last few days I am just feeling awful. I was weepy, woke up in a panic and now I am feeling really uneasy and like a zombie. I know that my period is just about to start.

I am taking the HRT to get rid of these symptoms that have plagued me and made my life a misery for the past 6 months. Is it too early to say it's not working or does the progesterone make you feel bad? My GP did say that I seem to be progesterone intolerant and so has not prescribed my a massive dose since I have a regular cycle anyway.

i am also thinking I may be administering the gel wrong? I have felt slightly better, but am thinking this may be a placebo effect.

Hi AngsanaBlossom

 :welcomemm:

Sorry to hear you are feeling rough. If you are peri-menopausal with a strong cycle then it's difficult to say what is causing your symptoms. Often progesterone withdrawal (either artificial due to HRT or just before a natural period) causes the pms symptoms you mention like feeling weepy, or irritable etc.

If you have a regular cycle had it changed at all (shorter or longer cycle, shorter or longer bleed, heavier or lighter etc, other symptoms?) before starting HRT and what symptoms were you hoping to alleviate?

The aim of course is to feel better overall when taking HRT but also it does take several weeks to adjust too! If you are feeling better generally - then you will still get some ups and downs due to your cycle and the HRT but hopefully you will see even more of an improvement over the next few weeks.
