I'm talking about utrogestan. They are oral tablets as far as I know. I have seen a different sort that are especially for the vagina. Do oral tablets dissolve easily in the vagina? Some say you can insert them this way but would haver thought they need to be in a different format
They are exactly the same tabs exactly the same formulation designed for oral or vaginal use. The Utrogestan 200mg for vaginal use (available in UK) is the same as used to be available for HRT. Now we only have the 100 mg for HRT and the leaflet has been re-written for the UK market.
If you check the French website ( their equivalent of eMC) you can read the SPC for 200 mg here:
http://base-donnees-publique.medicaments.gouv.fr/affichageDoc.php'specid=63157698&typedoc=Rand for 100 mg here:
http://base-donnees-publique.medicaments.gouv.fr/affichageDoc.php'specid=61673424&typedoc=RThe 100 mg are described as "UTROGESTAN 100 mg, capsule molle orale ou vaginale"
ie soft capsule for oral or vaginal use
Vaginal use is given as an alternative where there are side effects from oral use such as sleepiness or dizziness.
Those pesky 100 mg balls are a right pain to insert though because they are so tiny and they sometimes escape while I'm trying to poke 'em up!
If you would prefer the 200 mg ones then ask your doc for them but you might encounter resistance since many lack the knowledge.....
You can also get specific progesterone pessaries but these can't be used orally - Cyclogest - waxy pessaries - eadsier to insert but not licensed for HRT.
