Do I need a higher dose HRT?
« on: August 03, 2018, 11:37:33 AM »

Not been on here for a while as I've been doing ok on Angeliq. I'm nearly 6 years post meno. I was put on Ellest Duet at first but about 3 months in I developed really bad anxiety and depression lasted about a month, came off it then tried Kliovance and same thing happened. After a lot of research decided to ask to try Angeliq as the progesterone seemed a lot better suited to most people.
I've been on Angeliq for a year now and apart from a few stomach problems and morning anxiety for the first month I've been pretty good on it.
The last few days I've been feeling a bit down and have some anxiety, it seems to come in waves, don't feel that good on waking either. It's not the depths of despair depression I've had before but I'm scared it could turn into that.
I'm wondering if maybe I could do with some more estrogen as Angeliq is one of the low dose tablets. Is it possible to “top up” with a gel? I've had no return of the flushes or any other symptoms just the low feeling with bits or anxiety, maybe it's just a blip as I've had the odd one before, it just scares me that I could end up getting really bad with depression again it was truly horrendous.
I'd like to stay on Angeliq if I can as I think it's helped with the hair loss I suffered while on Ellest and my skins a lot better on it too.
I'm probably worrying over nothing but would be interesting to know if it's possible to add extra estrogen without stopping Angeliq.

Hi Marie 62

I was on Angeliq for 10 months last year and really liked it. However started with anxiety and headaches, also a constant dry mouth which kept me awake at night. Mood was really good on Angeliq. I think for me it was a build up of progesterone.

Take Care Wx

Thanks Warwick
I sometimes get a dry mouth too on Angeliq but no other problems apart from the last few days feeling a bit low,I'm hoping it's just a blip as the thought of going on another HRT and possible side effects scares me :-\

Not sure what strength of angeliq u are on but there are two strengths available.  I have been on angelic for 6.5 months but have had to move on due to constant bleeding for the last three and a half.  Mood has been good and flusheshave gone and I  have felt some type of ‘normal'.  Good luck.

Hi Ginny, I started on Angeliq back end of December last year.  Felt great initially but then started going backwards on it and got spotting for 10 weeks (along with headaches).  I would imagine you could add gel to it if you are ok and not spotting, but I am not a professional.  I mix patches and gel now and have mirena which is working well at the mo.  Do hope you've got sorted since posting this on 3rd!   :)

Thanks for your replies. I've been not too bad since I last posted, felt a bit down for a few days but it passed. Still got a bit of morning anxiety which is a pain but it's not the terror that I had on Elleste!! As I've had no return of the flushes I think I'll stick with Angeliq for a bit longer. Maybe my own hormones are responsible for the few low days I've been having. I've been on it a year now and have never had any bleeding or other side effects so am very reluctant to change.
I'm finding it harder to get Angeliq and the pharmacist usually has to search around for it as there's never any in stock,it doesn't appear to be very popular in my neck of the woods  ::)
