Author Topic: Reduced oestrogel to one pump and bleeding every 2 weeks (peri) ???  (Read 1697 times)

Hi, a few months ago my blood showed oestrogen levels of 1400 (750 a mth later) at which point Dr said to halve oestrogel dose to 1 pump a day (have been on 2 pumps since starting HRT last summer). Another Dr. suggested that I may not be absorbing enough progesterone (100mg utrogestan vaginally 2-3 weeks of mth) and to use it transdermally and every day. Apart from 1 mth over the last 4 months I have been having a period every 2-3 weeks. Had an ultrasound of womb and lining is fine. Also have an ovarian cyst and Dr thinks it may be related. I know periods during peri can be ad hoc but thought the HRT would regulate this. I have always had a regular cycle.

Not feeling great on only one pump - any advice?
Thank you

Hi and welcome to mm

You are using a sequential regime so you will get a bleed.  Utrogestan is not as powerful as other progesterone types so erratic bleeding is more likely. Also, if your oestegn levels are that high then more bleeding is likely.
I assume you must be peri menopause and this will mean your own hormones may well be fluctuating in the background and having an effect.
have you tried using 200mg Utrogestan for 12 days each month? This is the recommended dosage.
Perhaps try one of the stringer progesterone eg Provera?

Thank you Dancing girl, yes I have been getting a bleed once a month but 2 periods a month is quite a lot. I think my oestrogen levels are high and yes I am in peri. I thought that using utrogestan vaginally has a "stronger" effect than orally (Dr said so). My Dr told me that maybe absorption is low so to try using the cream from the tablet on the skin (just open it up), not sure if this is as effective as using internally. I will try 200mg though as I do have a packet.

Many thanks  :)
