Does anyone suffer with a very itchy scalp in this hot weather. It's worse when I am lying down. Jason's anti dandruff and itchy scalp shampoo is helping a little. Tried all sorts of shampoo, but am now just using the one.  When I had this problem a few years ago was prescribed Betacap by the doctor. Reluctant to use the Betacap as it is quite potent. Guess it's just the hot weather aggravating my scalp. So annoying. Hoping it subsides very soon. Will try an antihistamine tablet.  Replies appreciated.

I haven't really got the answer to this, but anti-dandruff shampoos can be very drying and might be making things worse. How about using a milder shampoo for a while, baby shampoo perhaps? Follow that with a good conditioner left on for a couple of minutes. The antihistamine might be a good thing to try as it does sound a bit like an allergic reaction.

Why use shampoo?  Simply pour cool water over the head and massage gently.  Gentle towelling .  Air dry.  No hair driers.

Oh come on, what did the Cave Woman do  .  [apart from getting pulled along by Cave Man by the hair  ] .   As long as the scalp is gently rubbed with a rolling movement of the fingertips, shampoo isn't necessary.  Some have found vinegar good but I don't want to smell like a chippy  .  Shampoo can cause scurv [sp] but I like the bubbles - in fact, if I buy a new type of shampoo I have to use it as soon as I get home    . 

Does anyone remember Granny using water from the roof into a large tub, drained through a silk stocking for hair washing?

Hi midnight shadow.
I use betnovate scalp application when my head itches.
I suffer from eczema on my scalp and sometimes on my face,
just above my eyebrows, and in the corners of my nose, and when I use this stuff within a day or if really bad two, it's completely cleared up, until the next episode....
Doc told me it was ok to use on my face as long as it was only a smidggin, (it can thin the skin)so I dip a cotton bud in and just touch the area with it.... as for my scalp, I just use all over and massage in then wash off next day.....brilliant stuff....

Does anyone remember Granny using water from the roof into a large tub, drained through a silk stocking for hair washing?

I don't know about my Nan, but we had a water tank on the lean-to roof when I was a child (I'm 55) and a tap for it in the downstairs toilet.  We didn't have hot water in our taps, (Mum and Dad liked doing things the hard way), so she boiled the tank water in a galvanised bucket and washed my hair with it over the kitchen sink.  We used Lincobeer shampoo.  It smelt lovely.  And the final rinse always had a couple of shakes of vinegar in it to make it shine.  You don't smell of vinegar, the volatile chemicals in vinegar evaporate very quickly.  My hair was always soft and shiny in those days.

AAAhhhhh - Lincobeer, that brings back memories.  I see it on the ethnic stalls sometimes, I might try it.  Shandy would do just as well but may be sticky.

I take evening primrose capsules every day and this seems to help with my itchy scalp.

I also get the itchy scalp. I used T Gel for a while & it helped. I think the hot weather has a lot to answer for in this issue too.
