Mirena Coil and Estradiol Patches... stressed 😩
« on: July 27, 2018, 06:00:27 PM »

Hi.  My Mirena coil is due to be removed in 6 months.   I am finding that my mood is up and down and generally plummets when someone at work plays games.. this happens regularly.  I start to ruminate and can't seem to shake off the incident and then suffer a low mood.    I have in the past been able to shake off these dramas and not let stress me too much.   I am just noticing that these things are getting to me more than usual.

Do you think the age of the coil might be impacting my mood... could the progesterone be gone from the coil.  My breasts are sore too.

I think this might have happened the last time.

The estrogen patches and coil usually work quite well and my symptoms are minimal.  Thank you ladies.  :)

Progesterone is not known as a feel good hormone so I can't see how it would have helped a low mood.
What level estrogen patches are using?

Hi there.  I use Evorel 50 patches - 2 over 7 days.  I am suffering with anxiety and no patience.  I feel angry quickly too  :(

Progesterone does get a bad rap, but it is supposed to be calming so as I assume you want another Mirena fitted, why not go back to the doctor and ask if you can have it switched over now and explain you think the falling levels are affecting you negatively.

If you were using an oestrogen pellet you would be looking for just this sort of change in mood and behaviour to indicate when you needed a new pellet.  I don't see why the same can't be said for the coil.

I also think you might need a higher dose of oestrogen.  When I had a Mirena coil with a 50mcg patch it didn't work at all but obviously it has worked for you until now.  Could it be that your own oestrogen levels have fallen further?  Mine continued to fall for a long time after I was post menopause.

Have you considered using Oestrogel instead?  It is more dose flexible.

I have put two patches on, I did that Saturday morning.   My sleep did improve last night I was in deep sleep for longer but was pretty tired as my sleep was poor last week. I still feel anxious and a bit cross when I think about some work issues... I am going to sit away from the irritations today.   I manage a large group of 20 / 30 year olds and they can be challenging at times.   I will take some deep breaths but I am anxious about not be as level headed as I usually am.   Can I buy the estorgen cream online or should I see my GP and ask for a change to the cream.   I live in the UK and it's hard to persuade the GPs about hormones.

Also has anyone used CBD oil for menopause anxiety/irritation?

Thanks

Hi

You have effectively doubled your dose of oestrogen in one go.  That might be too much.  If you wanted to try that I would recommend cutting a patch in half and wearing 75 dose.  Then, if you need more in a month or so you can increase, but do it slowly.  All my mistakes have been from doing things too fast.  For example, I recently switched from a compounded cream of all 3 hormones because I was no longer absorbing it.  My levels, on testing, were very low all around.  I got the gel before I saw my hormone doctor and read the leaflet.  It said 2 pumps a day.  So I did that.  By day 3 I was starting to feel edgy and not quite right.  Fortunately I saw my hormone doctor the next day and she immediately said, start on 1 pump a day.  I appear to be very sensitive to hormones and so I have to go slow.  She was right.  I have felt much better since dropping back.

You don't mean cream, you mean Estrogel.  You can't buy it but your GP can prescribe it, even if they haven't heard of it, it's there on the list of HRT preparations available for us.  Just insist if you want to move away from patches.  But for the immediate future, try the patch increase, but slowly.
