Yes don't throw the half patch away!!! That would be a waste! Nothing's going to happen to it in the few days it sits in the packet waiting for you to apply later in the week! I used to cut 50 mcg patches into 4 and add a little bit to each 50 mcg to give 62.5 mcg. (I now have 75 mcg which I cut a bit off to give the same amount).
