Estradiol Lab Results
« on: July 17, 2018, 06:18:33 PM »

Hi ladies
Havent been on in a while due to other ongoing health issues which long story short resukted in me having several private lab tests from biolab in london as i now have 2 auto immune diseases one of which is affecting my eyes and vision, part of the reason i stay off screens where possible.

Upshot is im surgically menopausal and on oestrogel only 1-2 pumps day.  Results from  samples over 24hr salivia tests showed Estradiol 34 pg/ml.    Progesterone 24 pg/ml.   Testosterone 12 pg/ml. The ratio of Estradiol to Progesterone is 0.7

Report says oestrogen dominance.

Can anyone offer any advice as to the dominance aspect?  Or should i take a progesterone, if so how much?

Thanks in advance

Hi there Linsey44

Sorry to hear about your ongoing helath issues.

re the blood tests - salvia tests are completely unreliable and no indication of what your actual levels are, unfortunately and we can't interpret them for you - sorry! If you would l like to know your hormone levels then you need accurate blood tests which are also somewhat unreliable (because they vary from hour to hour) but at least pretty accurate at the time they are taken.

Oestrogen dominance is a complete red herring and you don't need to know the ratio and if you are in surgical menopause with no ovaries then you will only be producing a little - but this is all you need. You only need it in large amounts to protect your womb and in pregnancy. You really only need estradiol and tesosterone levels ( and also SHBG so you can measure free androgen index). I had these ordered by my GP on NHS because I am taking testosterone.

No need to take any progesterone but you might need some T depending on libido and how else you feel ( muscle aches and pain and fatigue after exercise is another sign).

Hope this helps :)

Thank you Hurdity.

I was doubting their interpretation of the hormones.  The natural health practioner i see is very anti medication.  However i am not giving up my hrt just to satisfy their opinions.

Many thanks once again

Sorry to hear about your other health issues, Linsey. I assume these have been formally diagnosed via NHS testing? I hope you don't mind me asking.

Saliva hormone tests are completely unreliable - they can even be affected by what you have eaten! I know this gets talked about a lot Stateside, but doctors over the pond such as the much respected Dr. Vliet do not recommend these tests.

The only semi accurate way of testing your hormones is by blood levels and even these fluctuate, so any results will be just a 'snapshot' but can give a rough idea if for instance there is any doubt about whether transdermals are being absorbed. xxxx

Hi Tempest

Thanks for your concern, no harm asking, yes i diagnosed by NHS properly. I had my doubts re test anyway,  i will get bloods done as well by gp for a more balanced perspective.

Thanks
