Am I on the right HRT?
« on: July 06, 2018, 03:11:35 PM »

I'm not sure if I'm on the right HRT and my doctor doesn't seem very knowledgeable. I was on one HRT which became discontinued last year and then he put me on Premique low dose. When I've read into this it says they are usually given to women who have not had a period for over 12 months, but I was at around 7 or 8 months without a period when I went onto Premique, and not had a period since. I'm concerned this could be a problem in future as I think I should be on HRT that allows you to have a period - any advice welcome.

Hi koala 1967

 :welcomemm:
I'm sure someone will give you the answer you need who are more knowledgeable than me,
but when I saw my doctor, she said I had to wait the extra months before I started hrt. The conti
type. I was just a couple months off, to make it a full 12months, then after I got through them
without a period, she classed me as post meno, and gave me the conti version.
I'm on femoston conti, and they seem to suite me very well, they don't take every symptom
away completely, but nothing is a miracle.
But at least I'm not struggling too much now, and I've got my life back...
I'm sure your doctor should have given you the sequi version, but like I say, a more
knowledgeable lady should answer you shortly...I could be wrong....

Good luck

Hi koala67

 :welcomemm:

You haven't said how old you are nor how long you were on the other HRT ( as Dotty asked - which was it) nor how long you've been on Premique!

If your other HRT was continuous combined ( same pills every day) then another similar type (of which Premique is) should be fine once your body acclimatises.

If your other HRT was a sequential type - ie gave a bleed every months, and you had been on it for a year or so and are over 54 then trying a continuous combined hRT is worth a try. If you get unscheduled bleeding on the conti HRT and this persists then you can either change HRT type or go onto a sequential HRT.

Does this help?

At age 49 I had been having periods on and off for 2 years. Blood was checked the year before to show I was peri menopausal. In March 2017, I'd had 6 months of hot flushes at night waking me up every hour for 20 to 60 minutes. I couldn't cope with lack of sleep so asked for HRT. It was 3 or 4 months after I'd had my last period. The doctor gave me Prempak C (sequential HRT) which was was supposed to give me a bleed but I didn't have one, and then it was discontinued after my first 3 months so I was then prescribed Premique low dose which I have been over for about a year now.  So really I had not had a period for 7 months and was given continuous combined HRT and reading stuff about it since then I have seen that I should not have had a period for 12 months to be prescribed Premique low dose, so wondering about the consequences? Should I be asking for sequential HRT instead?
