Tips for coping with this weather and flushes
« on: June 30, 2018, 12:51:45 PM »

What a time to be menopausal. Its the hottest summer in scotland in years and Ive got my hot flushes and night sweats on top of this hot weather. Ive got a fan beside my bed and beside me in the living room to cool me down. Ive scrapped the duvet for a single sheet(hubby not over the moon) and ive bought a cool pillow thing. These small things are helping but the hot weather while lovely isnt helping my wonky thermostat which brings me out in a sweat numerous times a day on even the coldest days.

Also ive been eating ice lollies like there going out of fashion so my shorts wont be fitting soon and dont think the neighbours would appreciate ny bikini;)

Any others tips fellow suffers?

Or even just a moan about how warm you are

A Thermos vaccum flask?  The sides are cool.  Maybe put ice inside which would then condense on the outside, hold it to your neck/cheeks/thighs?  Wet flannels - one in a bucket of ice, the other to use?

Iced lollies - good idea.  Keeping hydrated is important. Stay in the cool.  Cotton sheets, not duvets.  Have spare pillows to change over the night.  Cool baths.

Freeze a hot water bottle full of cold water. I've never tried it but saw it mentioned on to and thought it was a good idea

You have my sympathy Hinari, I live in Spain & summer has arrived.
I don't wish to contradict the other replies but your actually better with ambient water to drink. Ice cold will make you warm up more as your body warms up the liquid to digest. As nice as it is. You are better with a cup of herbal tea. Sorry.
Same with the showers, not to cold.
I have a ceiling fan & bedside fan with a inline switch so it's easy to turn on & off. A fresh cotton sheet is all we use in the summer & a cool pillow ( the one with gel in ) best of luck and at least the weather won't last long.

I'm b****y roasting! This is truly hideous - I never thought Scotland was capable of these temperatures. I actually have fantasies about ripping my double glazing and cavity wall insulation out, and I never thought I would say that up here! >:( xxxx

P.S. - Avoid ice cream. Worst hot flush trigger EVER! Dairy + what Suziq99 said about cold stuff = recipe for disaster.

Why does menohell have to take away all the nice things? Chocolate, coffee, booze.....and now ice cream. Wail!!!!!! :'( xxxx

I know there's a load of advice about cold drinks and cold showers not being effective at cooling you down, but I love cold showers and they work for me  :)

I bought two king size wool pillows and two Egyptian cotton pillow slips as recommended on here and I'm sleeping like a baby with them, hubby loves them too.No more washing my hair every morning as it was usually all matted looking underneath with sweat and tossing and turning theyve made a massive difference to how we are both sleeping at night. My flushes were pretty much gone thanks to the hrt but the house is so hot in the summer you can't help but be uncomfortable so you can imagine what it was like with flushes.wool pillows, way to go lol.
Half price right now at homescapes have a look online they're brilliant.xx
Ps I bought another 4 pillowcases half price very pleased love a bargain thank you machair.lol xx

Ditch the sheet.  If hubby wants a cover he can have your side folded over his.

I haven't slept under anything for weeks now.  Our cottage gets very hot upstairs once it's been hot for a few days and then it stays like it long after the outside cools.  We have a column fan on low all night and no cover, + window open wide.  Lovely.

I love icy drinks and ice cream.  They don't seem to make me hotter.  I heard about the "freeze a hot water bottle" recently too.  But if you try it, don't fill it.  The ice will expand and split the bottle unless you leave room for it to grow.

:-\. sleep downstairs?  Hot air rises so it stands to reason that bedrooms will be warmer.  As for the attic space  :o  ::)

Yes it's true about keeping the windows closed, we drop the shutters & close up during the day them open everything up over night.
Shut the heat out.
My OH doesn't get it either 😂 He comes home to a nice cool house & starts opening the windows.. 😣
One other thing I do for the night sweats is keep a micro fibre towel under the pillow, throw off the sheet ( if you have one) & lay the towel over your body soaks up the sweat quick & lets you cool down.
