Another new member....
« on: July 22, 2018, 02:49:31 PM »

Hi,

Very grateful to be here and join the forum. Just started to read some of the great material here and learn from the generous people with experience.

I'm 55 and post-menopause at 50. 2 kids, 18 and 21, H supportive - and very patient! I worry I'm overtaxing that patience. It helps a lot to have people who have lived this. Might print out the guide for husbands!

I feel a bit of a fraud because my issues seem very minor in comparison with some, although they seem huge to me at times, but most of the time, I'm "managing" = not cracking up too obviously.  Not on much medication, use sage for the flushes/sweats, and lube for dryness.

My personal litany includes:

Hot flushes
Night sweats
Insomnia (causes lots of knock-on)
Brain Mush.
Loss of libido.
Arousal much lower.
Mood swings

But no discernible VA thankfully at this stage.

Right now, the hot weather is the main grief! But I do worry about other things in future.

Hi don't worry about your symptoms seeming minor. You actually seem to have quite a few.

Have you thought about hrt?

Thanks dotty, due to family history, hrt isn't advisable, but I'm being as good as I can be about alternatives.

Like I was saying most of the time it's manageable, but it seems like the combination of the hot weather and a worse patch is making it all hard to deal with.

I keep on telling myself that the hot weather and hot flushes are both temporary things, doesn't always help in the midst of them.

Hi you should check with a doctor who specialises in menopause about whether you can take hrt . It has been found that many “family reasons “ for not taking hrt are wrong. X

Oh interesting - I am so nosey about genetics  ::).

Hopefully you will find that your genetic history will not be impacted by HRT!  and do remember, that localised treatment for vaginal atrophy is different to other types of treatments.  Have you read our threads about VA?

:welcomemm:  not all 'specialists' know about menopause other than what they have read  ::).   Let us know how you get on.

Thanks, genetics is fascinating and complex and very quickly developing. It'll be a different world for our children I'm sure.

I'm currently slowly absorbing the wonderful info here, fortunately VA isn't something I'm noticably experiencing.
