Want to exercise but tired
« on: April 29, 2018, 12:16:21 PM »

I really want to do some exercise as I've read it will help with my low moods but I'm so lethargic I can't seem to get started. I know if I can just get started I'll be fine but can't get myself moving. Anyone else experienced this? How did you get passed it? TIA X X

I am exactly the same. What helps me is saying to myself that I will only do five minutes ( on the treadmill) and then more often than not, that turns in to 15/20. I am lucky, if I had to go out to exercise, it would never get done.

You need to find something you like doing first,  it definitely lifts the mood and makes me sleep better.
Start with ten minutes at first and increase it gradually.
I prefer an exercise bike, I plug my music in and go...I have been bad lately and have stopped because I have been busy....big mistake, I really need  to get back on it again!

You don't have to go through the door till your ready and able to cope with that, start off by watching a Zumba GOLD class on you tube.make sure it's GOLD,then every morning put your music on and do the stretching and easy movements you will learn when you watch the video on you tube,it's great fun it's easy you've no one to answer to.
you rest when you need to don't push yourself too fast it's better to do a gradual build up,then when your ready join a Zumba GOLD class locally it's such fun,no competitiveness, just good old fun you'll really enjoy.make it fun and you'll enjoy I do it every day in my lounge it'll improve your balance and co ordination and protect you against falls.good luck ladies xx

I have a treadmill.   I have intensions of using it regularly.  However  ::)

I was quite ill mid-Summer with intense tiredness.  Turned out I was low on VitD, capsules really did help.

I find gardening useful in raising mood and increases my tiredness.  Housework is exercise  ;)

I am the same, but I find that walking is best. Once I get out into the fresh air the lethargy goes. Also, if you can walk in some sort of ‘green space' ...a forest or park, it is known that this actually improves mood.

If it's pouring with rain, sometimes I still get togged up and go out. I have an exercise bike and watch TV with it, but that is somehow harder for me to get started than actually walking outside.

Hope you get on okay and manage to get going. Also worth getting checked out to ensure you're fit and well before doing too much strenuous stuff and build up gradually.

I've just found two Zumba gold classes started locally so I'm going to try and pluck up the courage to go this week,I'm full of good intentions then on the day I get so full of fear I can't budge and I hate it,it tears me to bits and it's so frustrating,I'm going to actually research this more tonight till I find a class every day then I hope it'll take the feeling of pressure off me maybe and I'll get to one of them one day it's a plan isn't it.lol.x

I find this weather doesn't help, I just want to hibernate.  I struggle to exercise in winter anyway, after 8 hours a day at work sitting at a computer I know I should but i'm just too tired and usually have dinner and fall to sleep watching TV!  In the summer I can go for walks and spend time gardening, looking forward to retiring but have 4 more years to go.  :(

Hi

I have recently been "hit" with what seems some more sever peri menopause symptoms and yes, going for exercise can be really tricky. I always walk to and from work (total about 1 hour) which helps but am running regularly and that sometimes feels like shuffling rather than running at all. I skipped running some times when I was just too tired to do anything. I am not pleased by this at all but on the positive side each time I come back from exercising I feel a lot better (at least for a little while). But this has ruined all my plans for running some longer races this year. If you have a type of exercise you used to enjoy nevertheless try and do it regularly even if it slower or shorter. All the best :)

Hello,
I've always done loads of sports and exercise and kept myself fit..... and then peri-menopause threw me off a cliff and amongst the numerous problems was a real drop in energy levels. I was really struggling to ride my bike to the same degree. Anyway, it turned out that I had low testosterone and after a few weeks on it, I've regained quite a bit of energy and am enjoying riding my bike again.
A friend of mine found that just getting her HRT dose right gave her a lot of energy back.

So, perhaps you should look into whether whatever you're doing or taking to manage menopause symptoms is enough?
