I’ve just collected my prescription for utrogestan but have been given Gepetrix instead, does anyone know if that can also be used vaginally?

Are Gepretix the same as Utrogestan?

Pharmacologically they are identical - they both contain micronised progesterone in a body identical version of the hormone. Gepretix is a branded generic version and offers a more cost-effective version of the Utrogestan brand.

It also offers an alternative when the utrogestan is out of stock.

Is using utrogestan vaginally 'off licence'?  Anything in the leaflet in the box?

Yes Utro off license and nothing on the blurb inside the box or online anywhere.

Hi polpringle
ive used utrogestan  caps 100mg vaginally successfully ( one cap every night no break) for last 5 years . It is off license. Like you i have been given Gepretix , same micronised progesterone however the caps feel a little harder but ‘soft gel’ outer shell cap - after internet research appear to be the same composition as Utrogestan  . They also dissolve in warm water as ‘soft gel ‘ caps are designed to dissolve below ‘normal’ body temp . Getretix can be used vaginally but in pessary form .

Hi Polpringle,
A pessary is,  a vaginal ‘suppository’. Usually made in as a waxy type  bullet shaped form so that it can be  easily inserted .

I used it vaginally last night as I used to with Utro and all seems fine, just no discharge that I usually get from the utro
