Am 56 last period Ant 5 yrs ago, started HET for about 2 years and then stopped as didn't think making much difference.....  sleep swears got worse so started HRT again beginning of Feb. Saw specialist and am on high dosage as she thinks I'm not, absorbing it all,  was a sugar addict and the insulin can block estrogen receptors.
Changed my diet and estrogen kicked in for week and then had lots of events and of course sugar back into me and then started a period! Specialist put me onto progesterone to stop period and it's still going on.   Evirel 75 patch proogynova 2 mg twice a day provera twice a day.  It's now been 4 weeks and getting lots of low achy period type pains. Went to GP he not happy with high levels on HRT  but so he wud referring me for a scan.  Seems strange as I have never had heavy period in life.....I'm worried maybe hysterectomy??

Breakthrough bleeding is to be expected in first 6 months of starting HRT.

It could be a build up of the lining, you need to have a scan.  Any bleeding after 2 years period free should be investigated, it gives one a guideline to work with.

Do you want a hyesterectomy, if not, do discuss various types of treatment to ease your symptoms.  Some ladies keep a mood/food/symptom diary to chart their feelings.

But as I said above , if you started HRT in February then it's not a worry as it would be classed as breakthrough bleeding when starting HRT.

Not if you have just started hrt. Have you just started hrt? If so, which one?

Was on premique about 4 years ago and never had breakthrough.
I am now Evorel 75 patches and Progynova twice a day...pretty high dosage says my GP. And started progesterone Provera twice a day about 2 1/2 weeks ago.
Strange to be having the period achy pains!

That's a lot of oestrogen and a lot of progesterone.

I had same breakthrough bleeding and pain on Elleste Duet Conti. Now on Oestrogel and Utrogestan and it's much better .
