This 'growing old lark is a joke'
« on: April 09, 2018, 03:50:50 PM »

Well, had my last period about a couple of years ago, stupidly thought, 'YES' it's all over and done with now................. oh how wrong am I?
Hot flushes, well night flushes still have those every night........ does my head in. My bones ache, I feel knackered all the time.  I want to burst out crying.......but don't. Sometime i have health anxiety, and general anxiety.  It comes for a few days then buggers off. I call it Bridgette, like a wicked woman sat on my shoulder come to aggravate me.  I just tell her to do one. lol

Can any ladies out there please tell me how long this goes on for......... I am 57, although a young 57. Going back to the gym tomorrow.
Is this normal or have I something wrong with me.  Can any post menopausal ladies let me know if they still have symptoms.  Are my hormones still depleting and finding their new levels. Don't say no I'll be paranoid then. lol

Hi wiggles at a young 60 lol I've had to go back on hrt after a 5 year absence I got worse and worse as the years went on without it,go see your gp and discuss going on hrt and also make sure you get vagifem or estriol cream for VA as you will be getting very dried up downstairs ,like a lot of us,so catch it before it gets critical and causes you Uti,s. it is a lifetime treatment for VA.
I've just had a dxa scan done and have osteopenia in my hips and spine so the hrt will protect you and lessen the extent of that.good luck and some of the other ladies will come along too and give you good advice. Xx

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Wiggles, but menopause will be for the rest of your life! Your symptoms are most likely due to lack of oestrogen.

HRT will protect your heart and bones for the future and can bring many other health benefits. Have a look at the treatments section on the green banner at the top to get clued up. There is plenty of advice available from the other ladies on the forum (Daisydot has already set the ball rolling!) so ask away if you need to. Good luck.

Hi and welcome to MM Wiggles
Nobody can tell you how long the meno symptoms will last - sorry. I'm 62 and stopped hrt 2 years ago and health issues have become worse over this time. Poor sleep, an inability to control body temperature, digestive problems and headaches all make life challenging. I had 3 years without HRT in my early 50s and the meno symptoms didn't  subside so I'm not hopeful that things will get much better in the near future for me. I have simply changed my life to accommodate how I feel - I eat small nutritious meals regularly, take supplements because I can't eat certain foods, I do lots of walking, work part time and do a lot of Mindful Meditation. Unfortunately my body would not cope with progesterone as I got older ( took HRT for roughly 25 years due to POF) so this is why i stopped hrt - I wish I could still be using it.

Whereas myself .......... I hardly dare say that I'm through the other side apart from vaginal atrophy treatment.  I began peri at 38, periods waxed and waned, I had hot glows across the back of my shoulders after my bath and various parts of my skin itch, particularly my insteps at night.  After 5 years I stopped carying protection  ;) - mid-60s now.

Anxiety has been present since I was 3.  It's The Change.  Can be a shock though.
