It's a real dilemma for me, as mine isn't just about investing in a £40 session, it's £3k! I like science to back things up to the point that when I trained in hypnotherapy I did an additional advanced course where we were all strapped up to ECGs and other equipment to demonstrate the changes in brain activity, measured against placebo. Saying that, hypnosis is a state of extreme focus so the same brain state would also be seen if intently concentrating on a book in a noisy room or in an active phobic state (as we hypnotise ourselves into a fear state without any evidence that anything is wrong!).
Anyway, my own experiences and my interest in quantum physics tells me there is more to it than placebo and new research is apparently on the way, which will be nothing to do with a cause and effect molecule, as you all know, nothing is there to measure, but more to do with the physical nature of shaking, dilution, energy, I don't know!
I realise to practice as a homeopath the market is going to be reduced due to the recent NHS funding cuts and, how things were when I first started out as a clinical hypnotherapist (before training as a psychotherapist) when hypnotists were seen as charlatans, you do get a hard time from the general public who aren't as polite as here!
However, something is telling me to go for it! My instinct has often proven very helpful in the past when everyone was saying ‘no' so let's see once I've had a more fuller meeting with the college's Principal.
