Acne!
« on: March 22, 2018, 03:53:36 PM »

Hi, Why at the age of 43 am I suddenly getting acne!  I've never been spotty anyway but now have huge boils breaking out around my chin area!  It's obviously got something to do with the HRT I'm on.  Is there anything I can do to stop it or prevent it?  Thanks.

Sometimes the testosterone derived progestogens (like norethisterone in the two preparations you have taken) cause androgenic effects in some women. You might be better off with a different preparation if this is a problem for you?

Hi Hurdity,

Thanks for your reply. After reading loads on this forum I'm starting to think that maybe I need to try something like Femoston 1/10 as I've struggled with Elleste Duet and now Evorel Sequi.

Hi sadielouise78...

Welcome to my world!  I started on Elleste Duet which gave me awful acne and backache.  Switched to Femoston 2/10 - exactly the same.  Regularly had to take Cocodamol for the backache.  GP suggested Evorel Sequi - acne even worse but backache slightly more tolerable.

After a bit of a fight with my GP (who is totally ignorant about HRT) I'm now using Elleste Solo & Utrogestan, which I am taking orally.  The backache is almost gone but the jury's still out on the acne side of things - I haven't been on it long enough yet to really know if it's any better.  What I will say is the Utrogestan certainly gives me a good night's sleep!! I am really hoping the spots clear up as the 'mental' benefits I am feeling taking HRT have been pretty good.  I'm way less stabby  ;D

Hope you find something that suits you  xx

Hi Heidi,

Thanks for your reply.  Why did they switch you to Femoston 2/10 and not 1/10, did they say?

I'll look into Elleste solo and Utrogestan, thanks.  I'm not doing so good on the Evorel Sequi at the moment.  I've only been on it two weeks but I started my period on day 2, quite painful and heavy, and I'm on the 2nd week now and it doesn't seem to be stopping.  Every 3-4 days I start with the terrible pains and it gets heavier.  I'm actually on week 6 of bleeding but since I started the new patch it got worse.  And the spots!  Oh my god!  They are huge!  I think it'll be another trip to the doctors at the end of this pack  :'(

Sorry to hear of your problems sadielouise. Did you have a gap  between stopping the Elleste Duet and starting the Evorel Sequi?

Hi Sarah...

I was initially prescribed ELLESTE DUET 2mg so was just changed to FEMOSTON 2/10 for the same dose.  During my initial consultation I told the GP how angry / ragey I was particularly to my husband - hence the higher dose?  He's a good bloke - I don't want to drive him away!!   ;D ;D

Hia,

I had developed acne a couple of years ago(age 50)for the 1st time ever. As CLKD would say HORMONES!!

I was/am peri and it was pre any hrt. It went on for a year and at the time I had no clue it was due to hormone fluctuation.
It's a well-spouted comment that spots or acne around the chin and jaw are usually hormone-related. I got some zitinyrt from my gp which helped, and then it completely went on it's own after a year. I spent a small fortune on concealers, I was/am the concealer queen. If It's really bad dermablend is the best for cover, see link under here. Otherwise I use revolution fast base foundation stick.

I don't have acne but notice that the pores across my nose are blocked.  What we teens used to call 'maggots'   ;D. a gentle squeeze eases them out.  White.  Soft.  Underneath my chin too, if I have a black hair which I pull then a small 'maggot' forms  :-\ even though I cleanse regularly.

HORMONES  ???

One think if you do get spots don't use oil products, you need oil free foundation and moisturiser ect.
I use the zintryt to Turkish Delight which helps.
Use a wash with salyic acid and keep you hair off you face. Change pillow cases every 2/3 days and make sure you wash with non bio.
Just some tips as I've suffered for years xx
