My menopause story
« on: March 09, 2018, 09:26:49 PM »

First pill of my new HRT prescription just taken (Elleste Duet 1 mg) & want to start a record of how I get on.  My posts are mainly for my own peace of mind but please comment & share your amazing advice with me!

I'm 48 & had peri menopausal symptoms of hot flushes & zero sex drive about 2 years ago.  I tried HRT twice but the symptoms didn't improve & I developed really heavy & painful periods so stopped.  Over subsequent 2 years I lost 4 stone & started running & the hot flushes disappeared 😊 but the sex drive stayed away. Over the past few months the flushes have come back together with insomnia, feelings of anxiety, racing heart and dry vagina. Last weekend saw my husband & I had a HUGE row about lack of sex - he threatened to walk out as He felt all the things in the “post for husbands”!

So we had a long heart to heart about lots of stuff including menopause. One of my commitments was to try again with HRT & he committed to being more affectionate & intimate without an automatic expectation of sex.

Let's see how I get on with this type of HRT.  Sorry for extra long post!!!😄

Hi LizJ

You might want to ask for Vagifem as well as full HRT for the dryness, I need both to stay comfortable as do a lot of ladies on here.

Hi Lizj
I really hope this HRT works out for you. What about trying the testogel as that is supposed to increase your libido
I think it is very hard with our partners as they haven't changed & so still expect sex the same amount as before & they don't really understand what is happening to us when we are going through the menopause or appreciate what we are having to deal with.

Day 2: thanks for your suggestions ladies, noted down for more “Googling” later 🙂.  My husband is much more open about talking about feelings & emotions than I am, I'm much more “stiff upper lip” so having a really honest discussion has helped enormously....although he's now trying to be a menopause expert & I've had to remind him that there's more to life than HRT!!!

Anyway, last night was bad for hot flushes & insomnia and I already feel hot and bothered tonight too. Hopefully after lots of exercise today (I'm walking 100k in July so am training like mad) I'll sleep better.  Fingers crossed.

End of week one.  Still having hot flushes but I think these are affected by what I've eaten ... the two nights that were really bad were days when I'd eaten a huge ice cream pudding (😋) and a Chinese all you can eat buffet!!  Apart from these two nights my flushes felt a bit less intense and more manageable.  I have noticed an improvement in my natural vaginal lubrication too.

However this week my husband has been working away so better heat control & good nights sleep could have a lot to do with this!!

Not noticed anything like headaches or feeling sick etc so that's good.  Onwards and upwards 😄
