Typical!
« on: February 03, 2018, 10:40:13 PM »

Hiya, ive been on the pill for about 1yr-15minths ish. During that time I've been single, had a couple of dates but nothing great. Have had weird peri symptoms over the last 2 months more than normal, as docs have been so useless made the decision to come off the pill an see what's happening with my body.
Lo and behold.. i start chatting with a friend I've known a while. Needless to say I didn't need the birth control for contraception before but now am worried I'm not covered. I know we can use other protection but would also like the knowledge of having the pill in place too.
Going to get a docs appt to see about a different pill.

You could have a Mirena fitted. Probably sensibly to go back in the pill though. One shouldn't have sex without a condom these days anyway really - men should be fine with this these days.  My daughter has had a few boyfriends and won't have unprotected sex till they have been to the GUM clinic for a check up. Don't go for a different birth control Pill if the 1 you were taking is OK.  One has to be covered for birth control until 2 years after the last proper period, which during menopause, can be difficult to remember  ::).  So using condoms is essential, make sure that the guy uses the correct size too though finding those on the shelf is difficult.  Maybe trot along to your local Birth Control Clinic for advice?

The pill I was in just wasn't working as it had done. So that was another reason I'd decided to come off it and see what happens with my body.

I know he will use protection as he's that kind of guy. I just want to make sure I'm covered properly too. Having not been in a relationship since my ex left 6 years ago it's all a little daunting (ex had a vasectomy after our youngest was born so never needed birth control). I was put in the pill to regulate periods and symptoms.

There are two different BCPs that are actually very good for the peri meno stage.  They have bio identical oestrogen, so I think they may be worth trying. They are called Qlaira & Zoely - so perhaps ask your GP if you can try one of these. DG x

:) Thankyou, going to try and get an appointment this week. See what the useless locum doc fobs me off with this time.

I will write those two down. I was on Microgynon 30. Useless lately for symptoms, had been good at first.

Would you be better off seeing a Prescribing Nurse if there is 1 at your Surgery, might be quicker and more appropriate  ;). GPs aren't clued up and if the Locus is young  :-\

When I had bloods done two weeks ago I was chatting with the nurse then, she seemed very clued up about all matters menopausal. I'm not sure she does anything birth control wise though? I will ring and see what I can sort, no point seeing the Male, middle aged locum. He fobs everything off.. and the main gp who it takes4 weeks to get an appointment with.. she just tells you you're depressed and need a man and to window shop more! Great surgery I attend Hahha!

Yep! The lead doc at our practice is renowned for her off par comments. It's not just me she's told this to!
When I went originally about my problematic periods she dismissed all symptoms and told me I needed a man!

When I went about feeling so rubbish she told me I was depressed.

Hahah and no they don't offer that service 😂

Need a decent Doctors surgery.

If you don't have another GP practise to move to, then you need to ‘handle' what you have I'm afraid.

Go to the appointment with everything written down. If she does come out with one her 'usual quips' - actually say that her comment is inappropriate and unhelpful. If you see the locum then the written info could be helpful. Make it clear that you have done your research from a reputable site that is run my an eminent gynaecologist (Dr. Currie was on the panel that put together the latest NICE guidelines) and basically tell them what you would like to try - OR - ask for a referral to an appropriate specialist gynae.
You don't need to be angry, rude or even that assertive, just be clear and calm.

I think you should try the Qlaira BCP next - might just do the trick until you get deeper into the menopause. DG x
