I have been searching around on this topic but still unsure what to do.    I am 49, no period for almost 2 years (& tested post-menopause).  I suffered through a few years of peri-menopause without HRT as I did not want the forced periods.  Started taking Premique Low Dose maybe 3 months ago for both sweats and depression.   It was like a miracle it worked so well.   Then everyone ran out of stock of the Premique Low Dose.   My "doctor" (that is, whomever I can manage to get an appt with) put me on the Femonston but was clearly not very confident with menopause issues. 

Started Femoston Conti low dose 2 days ago and now bleeding -- a lot.  Feel exhausted but not sure if just "period" related or something else. Not sure if the bleeding would occur during any HRT type change or if it is the Femoston itself causing the bleeding issues (which is clearly a problem with this medication based on this forum). 

The rumour is Premique will be back in stock end of Jan, but not sure if switching back will create problems as well.   Clearly not very experienced with these meds and feeling very unsure and stressed.

I am inclined to just stop taking the Femoston and wait it out as I don't want to deal with months of bleeding.   Any advice?

You may be bleeding because of the different types of hormones in Femoston but, more likely, you may be bleeding because your uterine lining had built up so this needs to shed.  Bleeding will usually only occur if the lining has built up - you were only on the Premique for 3 months and so may have experienced this bleeding anyway and this is quite normal in the first few months of any continuous HRT.  They are trying to phase out the equine HRT types like Premique.

I would continue with the Femoston - there isn't a higher dose in the conti Femoston and a higher dose may increase the chance of more bleeding. One should use the lowest dose of HRT that controls your flushes etc.   Femoston is a good HRT as it has the bio identical oestrogen and a kinder progesterone, so suits many women very well. Some bleeding and/or spotting is quite normal with any conti HRT for the first few weeks or even months - but your bleeding will hopefully settle quite quickly.
Very few GPs are up to speed with HRT and treating the meno - that's why this site is so helpful.

Stick with the Femoston - you just have to be patient and don't stress. If the bleeding doesn't settle then having a Mirena fitted and adding oestrogen as patch or gel is the best non bleed option. DG x

Just to add - when you say low dose Femoston conti do you mean the 1 mg dose? There is an ultra-low dose of 0.5 mg which would be far too low and if so - as Dotty says - you would need to increase to the 1 mg dose at least.

As Dancinggirl says changing from one preparation to another which differ both in the oestrogens and the progestogen is likely to have some side effects and she has explained well the likely reasons for bleeding. Sometimes women in post-menopause have a slightly thickened lining which then starts to shed once they start HRT.

Yes, the ultra low Femoston is very, very low dose - so continue with this but ask for the 1mg Femoston to start as soon as possible. DG x
