Menopause clinics Wiltshire
« on: July 30, 2017, 12:49:59 AM »

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a specialist clinic and consultant in the Chippenham/ Bath/Swindon area. After many visits to my (rushed and not particularly sympathetic) GP, I am now looking at private menopause clinics in the hope that I can get some control over my debilitating symptoms.  I've tried Femoston and one other but neither of them had an effect. Unfortunately my doctor doesn't seem to have any further solution and can't seem to help me. I desperately need to talk to a specialist as the relationship with my family and friends is suffering. I know I'm unbearable to be around and I'm struggling to feel optimistic.   :'(Any advice on clinics in my area would be hugely appreciated.  Thanks in advance.  xx

Hi there SSD - if yuo look at the specialists heading at the top of the page, that will direct you - there seems to be a Nuffield in Bristol?  They might be able to recommend somebody nearer where you live ...

Good luck!

Hi SSD
Just to say that I live in Somerset (not far from Yeovil/Montacute) so if you were ever in this area then let me know and we could meet for a coffee and very long chat!!
I am 55yrs and have just had my 12months without a period so now Post Meno.  However the symptoms have by no means vanished and I think that over the last few years I have ticked nearly every box of the '34 symptoms list' of the Menopause. At times they have been horrendous but I think they are slowly improving.
I am not on HRT  - even though I have been tempted at times - but this is more because I am so sensitive to medications and never dealt well with the pill when I was on it many years ago.
My coping mechanisms have been : lots of walking/no caffeine/Rescue Remedy/Kalms/Magnesium/Camomile tea and sleeping in my own room so that I can have the windows open all night - essential as the hot flushes are vicious.
Over the years I have not really met anyone that seems to have struggled the way I have and I am so grateful for websites such as this as it does make you realise that you are not alone.   I think that every GP practice should have a Menopause Support Group as then at least women can support each other as it is only really ourselves who know what the whole wonderful experience is all about.
Hopefully we can meet sometime.
Big hugs

Hi SP and Annie. Thanks for your replies to my post. A friend of a friend recommended a clinic nr Swindon and I've got an appointment 2moro....I'll let you know how I get on. 😊. Thanks Annie for your advice on coping with this awful time in our lives. It really is tough isn't it? I've tried so many different things since the big M took hold, but I've reached a stage now where I just want some quality of life back. Every day is such a struggle to find energy and a positive frame of mind & I'm so tired of GPs telling me it's depression and wanting to prescribe me antidepressants or refer me for CBT. I know it's hormonal but they don't seem to know that much about it. I agree that GP practices should all have Menopause  clinics. Too many women are suffering and having to struggle through. Hopefully the specialist 2moro will be able to help me. I'm so fed up with the insomnia, memory loss, aching legs, migraines, mood swings, tiredness, v atrophy, sweating, dull & lifeless hair, crepe paper skin ....the list is endless!  Sending you ladies tons of hugs. Sunshine Daily xx ❤

Hi Sunshinedaily,
Saw this thread and wondered if you could give me details of the clinic you were recommended near Swindon pretty please?.
Have been struggling now for years with symptoms but not getting far with gp or gynae consultant. Vagifem pessaries really helped me and even seemed to help with mood but I am not allowed to take them at the dose I need for that to work :-(... and I'm very sensitive, possibly intolerant of progesterone so need to find someone willing to let me try things till I find something to suit.

Hoping you are beginning to feel like you're getting somewhere with it all :-).

If not, I know it's easy for other people to say, but hang in there, keep fighting - it might be about to get better xx

I would be really interested to know where the specialist clinic is in Swindon also, as I have similar symptoms and response from GP, please could you post the contact details.
Many thanks

Hi There

This is a message for Ginger2004 who sent me a personal message in a reply to a post here but I am apparently not allowed to reply as I have not posted enough messages : sorry about that.
I would very much like to meet up with you in Yeovil so if you message me again with your mobile no. then I can text you back and we can arrange a coffee date somewhere??
Look forward to hearing from you.
Annie xx
