Mirena Coil - helpful?
« on: December 09, 2017, 11:48:12 AM »

Hi I'm relatively new to this site and I have to say it's really helping me just to be able to read others experiences on this journey.
My question is has anyone had the Mirena coil and use oestrogel successfully?
I am already taking antidepressants (which I have had to take since my 20s) and that is under control.
I have fibroids the biggest one of which I had embolisation on.
I am pretty progesterone intolerant but feel better on oestrogen.

I am wondering if mirena and oestrogel would be the way to go and would be grateful for any experiences you have of the combo.
My main concern is feeling extremely low, not wanting to go out, crying a lot as I did on Evorel Sequi (progesterone patch).
🙏🏻 thanks.

I have had 25 years of HRT experience due to premature meno, the Mirena with Oestrogel way the best HRT regime out of every HRT type I tried. A few side effects at first ( a bit sedated) but all bleeding stopped after the first few weeks so this was the least hassle HRT combo overall.

I have used the Estrogel/Mirena combination for the last 20 months, apart from constant very light spotting for the first 4.5 months I have been very happy with it, no weight gain, spots, sedation, mood swings although I think I may get some bloating every once in a while, but I am lactose intolerant so could possibly be that.

DG and Tinkerbell,
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply.
The more I hear the more I am thinking of giving it a go.
What is the recommended dosage of estrogel? Or does it depend on every individual?

This was the only combination that worked for me and I have been very happy with it. I have used it for 4 years now and since I am almost 60 my doctor thinks I should come off her. I have 50 micrograms estrodot patches with the Mirena coil. Dropping down to 37.5 from today.

Average Oestrogel dose is 2 pumps per day but I did well on one pump per day - we are all different so you should start low - say one pump per day fro 3-4 weeks - and then increase slowly over several weeks till you find the dose that works for you.
