Anxiety - again!!
« on: November 25, 2017, 09:06:42 AM »

Good morning ladies

Well here I am again!! Just when you think you're getting somewhere it starts again 😩

I've not had a period for 5 years!! but still get the symptoms every couple of months like I'm going to have a period.  I get the bloated stomach and usual dragging feeling in my tummy but no bleeding.

I have seen on Sertaline (AD) for a year now and also HRT for the same amount of time.  For two months now I've felt really great and back to normal but last week I had a two day migraine type headache and felt really awful since then I've had the horrible jittery 😬 feeling in my tummy and feeling really anxious about the anxiety returning!!  Does anyone else feel like this whose periods stopped a long time ago?  I'm worried now because I'm already on AD but now thinking what's going off and what will happen to me! I'll be put in a mental institute at this rate - I just want to be able to control the anxiety when it comes along so it doesn't overwhelm me again - has anyone tried CBT with any success?

Thanks for reading my post ladies it makes me feel so much better knowing that we are all looking out for each other x

Sorry to hear about this Lesley49

What sort of HRT have you been taking? I presume you are not on POP nor have a Mirena and your periods stopping was true menopause not due to the contraception?

Sometimes the progestogen part of HRT can give pmt type symptoms including migraine headaches and anxiety. Perhpas you would benefit from trying a different type? Also tablet HRT can sometimes cause more side effects too. Probably best not to increase ADs at this point if the symptoms are caused either by the HRT itself or the dose could be too low?

If you want advice about the different types then do ask again - they are all listed under Treatments on the main website (top tabs).

I used to worry that the anti-anxiety or anti-depressant medication wouldn't work and I would have to take up to the allowed dose and still not have relief from either  :'(.  I would suggest you talk to your practitioner about the amount of meds you are taking and which one to increase?  I self-medicate with my ADs in that if my brain becomes depressed for more than 3 mornings, I up the AD.  We forget the brain is an organ that sometimes requires support, regardless of causation  ::)

Hello Lesley49.

I feel your pain! I am seven years post meno and the jittery tummy feeling has been a frequent and much detested visitor. Like you I can be completely free of it for days and days and then it comes back for no reason that I can fathom. When it appears I always worry that it will overwhelm me and as you know that just makes it worse.  I am also taking an AD and HRT and wondering where to go next!

So sorry that I don't have any solutions for you but if I discover something that works I'll be sure to let you know, in the meantime I hope you find comfort in knowing that you are not the only one struggling with this debilitating meno symptom.

Wishing you well.
