So sorry - Nature seems to have taken over and it was probably worse to witness than for Poppy as they have no sense of time.  "If it Should Be" and Rainbow Bridge helped me a lot.

I scattered my dog's ashes on what would have been her 14th birthday in the fields where she hunted for shrews.  Never again.  There is never 'only' or 'just' anything in Life ........

Pets leave paw prints on our hearts - looked at the 'photos - those ears  .

Oh!      .   I'm overwhelmed by the love and concern on here....thank you, everyone for your comforting comments and Rockhopper, for the poem which made me cry again! But they are cathartic tears...

Poppy was a one in a million dog, a real wee character and we will miss her dreadfully.  I can't bear looking at her Mum, Holly, who just looks so dejected and sad.  But, she's getting lots of cuddles and treats, lots of ‘love you eye stares' and extra attention.  (As is Steve my husband who could still break into sobs at any moment...)

Sweetpea I'm so glad you've found our posts a comfort. You've all been on my mind every day. So lovely to hear that mum is getting plenty of cuddles the poor soul.

You'll all need time to grieve, you're all in so much shock at the moment, mum included. Just take your time, baby steps, and if you need to offload I'm sure that one us will be here to listen.

Oh her poor mum must be devasted, just like the rest of your family, especially as you can't really explain it to her and she won't understand. 

As Claireylou said just take things day by day, and know that we're all thinking of you and, sadly, we do understand what you are going through.

When our cats were pts, the remaining pets couldn't be bothered.  They were shown the body each time one passed but they seemed to know that the cats had one elsewhere. 

It's the suddenness of this that makes me  - no time to prepare though I am sure that Poppy didn't suffer as much as perceived.  Animals do have a blocking mechanism which we don't always see.

You're right.  It's the suddenness of it all...on Monday morning she was just fine, and it all happened so quickly and was awful to witness.

However, Holly seems to be fine today, she is bringing me her toys etc and I think we will all be ok.

Got lovely news this morning of a new baby in the family so that has cheered me up x
