Depressed, please help
« on: October 30, 2017, 07:34:35 PM »

Hi all
so sorry to asking but I am suffering again big time from mood swings I feel so depressed today I called in sick from work, been on my new regime since June this year ( 2mg Zumenon, some Testosterone and Amitryptyline 10mg but did increase a month ago to 20mg) and was going ok but was getting mood swing every month like PMT then they would go away but the end of last week I had suffered big time, today I have sit in all day either crying or sleeping, has anyone got any ideas , husband thought it was cause I had increased the Amitryptyline from 10mg to 20mg or I was getting too much estrogen, (I am turning 50 in 2 weeks) also this last year all the weight I lost last year has come back on. Please I need advice or help :'(

Total Hysterectomy 27/12/2012
2x100mcg Estradot
Testosterone
June 2017, 2mg Zumenon plus 10mg Amitriptyline

Make an appt. to discuss appropriate anti-depressant medication.  Sometimes HRT isn't enough!

Mood swings may well be hormonal but there are ways to help, I was advised to eat every 3 hours.  Hop over to the National Association for Pre-menstrual Syndrome web-site and ask there.  In the 1990s they saved me Life.

Bless you.  I'm not sure it'd be the amitriptyline making you depressed as 20mg is very low dose (I'm on 10mg for nerve pain with the option to increase to 20mg) but it could be making you sleepy.

It's worth trying oestrogen in either patch or gel (gel is fab for tweaking the dose)

I was on 100mg Estradot until June this year but due to them not sticking whatever I did to stop them falling off my GP said try the pills as she wont give me anything else as she said quote she only give transdermal HRT to fat people, so I did and am using 2mg Zumeron and was ok but did noticed every month I would get it felt like PMT but this week it was so bad all I done today is cry and mope around the house, not sure if I am getting too much or what x

R the symptoms prior to the bleed?  Are your periods anywhere regular?  Have you tried eating little and often as a sudden feeling of hunger can cause depression and anxiety.

Your GP is being a little in-sensitive!  Maybe speak to a Pharmacist when you are a little more stable about the various types of HRT including patches and how people stick them on.  That way you will be better informed ;-)

I have had a total hysterectomy, and was on the patch for years but this year they began to fall off and I tried everything to keep them on hence going on the pills

Sometimes the skin has to be totally dry B4 the patches will stick, so if the body is warmer  ::)!  Some ladies find a sticky tape across the patch to keep it stuck!

:bighug:  I know how awful that sudden mood swing can be I never want to feel *that* ill again!

So strange Estradot didn't stick.  They're renowned for how good they do stick.  But anyway.  Your gp is telling you porkies, oestrogen gel can be prescribed and so easy to tweak the dose to what suits you.  Research, print off and present your findings to the gp x

I know they stick well for years but all of a sudden they wouldnt stick, tried cleaning the area with surgical spirits but no, can not continue feeling like this to be honest, cant get to see my normal GP till the 13th November, do I start using the patches I got or just try and carry on with the pills till I see my GP, also this last few months spots all around my chin area, feel crap and tired of it :'(

The spots may be because of the testosterone,

Can I ask why you're on amitriptyline? I read my leaflet when I first got them and our doses are for pain control not depression.  They use much higher doses for that

It's worth trying the patches again, on hip or bum area.  X

You're very welcome, no need to thank me

I don't see my (or Your) dose of amitriptyline as an AD, I speak about my painkillers, not my AD,

Most say increasing oestrogen helps with mood but it doesn't do it for me, higher doses just make my heart race.  Testosterone has helped lift my low mood though.

It's worth reading up and listening to others stories to see what you can try.  We're all so different.  You may need a higher dose AD, unfortunately all this meno malarkey is trial and error x

Ask your GP to refer you to a Meno-clinic?
