HRT patches for perimenopause
« on: November 02, 2017, 08:27:27 AM »

Hi, I've been on femoston and elleste (different times obviously) for two years now. I'm 52 and was peri. I have no idea at what stage I'd be at re menopause as I was having periods when I started HRT. I had terrible symptoms of meno  -sweats. anxiety etc but periods were reg (ish)

My family have a history of clots and stroke and I'd much rather switch to patches. Question is, are there any available for peri meno women? I know there are lots for meno but if anyone can help it would be great. I have a docs appt at 4 today so Id like to be a little in the know as my docs aren't the best :(:(:(

Hi  :)

I think patches are patches, you can use them whatever stage you are at.

If you would prefer a transdermal HRT then tell your doctor that - it goes straight into your bloodstream rather than through your gut and liver.
If you feel you need 'evidence' to back up your thoughts then screen shot or print out some information on the benefits of transdermal over tablets.

Good luck  :foryou:

Hi kdee69 (and Salad!)

In fact there are patch regimes for peri-menopausal women - these are patches which consist of two weeks of oestrogen only followed by two weeks of combi patches - oestrogen + a progestogen, and give a withdrawal bleed every 4 weeks as with natural periods.

They are listed here: https://menopausematters.co.uk/perimeno.php (scroll down). The patches are Evorel sequi or Femseven sequi. The other alternative is to take oestrogen patches with separate progestogen - in which case the patches are the same whether peri or post. In peri-menopause you would just take a progestogen for 12 days out of 28. These are listed under Treatments - HRT preparations. Progestogens are utrogestan (micronised progesterone), Provera, or the Mirena coil.
