Hello Hurdity,

Just to let you know that there is also another drug recommended to help with hot flushes.....Gabapentin

Hope you are having a lovely day

Bj

Thanks - yes that one was on the list in the section I quoted in the recent paper, over the page in my earlier post but seemed to be contradictory regarding efficacy? There are quite a few prescribable drugs for use in place of HRT for those who cannot have HRT but not all ideal for those who have had breast cancer, so I understand. There is a section on this website listing them all https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/prescribed.php - but I think the paper I quoted is the most up-to-date.

Hi Bj,

I'm glad you found the information helpful! I can personally recommend Yes water-based, and I have been using it for several years now - if you contact the company, they will send you some free samples. I just use it as and when required to keep me comfortable. I really hope it helps you, should you decide to give it a try.  :)

Best wishes,

Jenna x

You're very welcome Bj!  :)

I really hope you will see a great improvement. I just need to use it once a day now and also at any other time I start to feel uncomfortable. I also use it before I am going to do gardening or DIY where a lot of bending is going to be involved - as that seems to set things off for me! Using Yes prevents this discomfort - I can't tell you how much it has helped me and I hope it will do the same for you.

All the very best,

Jenna x

Welcome Bj118!
Yes, menopause is a nasty evil thing and you deserve after what you've been through to feel better! I must admit, when I tell people I'm on HRT I get the usual "whoooooo, I don't want to risk cancer" thing but I decided years ago that feeling so unwell made life a bit pointless and if there was a risk it was better than the risk of me ending my life because I felt so ill at times that's what I wanted.
There's great support and knowledge on this site.
On the subject of dogs - I have two lovely Westies. Exhausting but they make me get up in the morning and get out of the house, otherwise I doubt I would see anyone but my husband from one day to another as the depression has made me mostly avoid people. For ages I couldn't drive or go to busy cities, which for an ex-secondary school teacher is pretty weird.
HRT has helped a lot so i hope you will find something to help you.

Hi again!
I have just found this on the british menopause society website to do with the NICE guidelines if it helps......

Debbie Keatley, NICE guideline developer with personal experience of sudden
menopause caused by breast cancer treatment, said:
“The treatment that I had
for breast cancer hurtled me into menopause. The problems I experienced included
not sleeping because of the night sweats, feeling exhausted and drained. I wasn't
prepared for the long-term effects on my relationship and sex life - I would have liked
to have had the chance to discuss this with a specialist. It was very hard to handle
this on top of already feeling rotten because of the chemotherapy. I was being
treated by an oncologist, so their focus was on how well the cancer treatment was
working, not on the terrible symptoms I was also suffering because of the
menopause. I had to go back and ask for help to manage the menopause, so it
would have been much easier if I could have been referred to a menopause
specialist when the symptoms started. So I'm very pleased that the NICE guideline
recommends more help for women in my situation. This guideline is good news for
women facing a double-whammy of sudden menopause whilst also coping with
hormone-dependent cancer or gynaecological surgery, now they won't have to deal
with their symptoms alone.”

Hope it helps x

Vertigo is the pits  :-\  >:(

Efficiency reports can be variable, as what isn't taken into consideration is what a patient expects from each treatment suggested  ::).  What works for 1 may not have effect for another ......... typical with most medications.  I don't get relief from Paracetamol 4 example.

I'll bounce the dog thread ;-)

Hello CLKD,

Yes, you are absolutely right.....the vertigo is the pits. Had to go to the ENT dr twice and he did the Epley's manoeuvre ..... got me more spinning...... supposed to be like that before recovery  :-\ :'(

The medications given had me knocked out ......when awake, still dizzy  :o

Have a nice week everyone,
