Smelling smoke when no-one else can??
« on: October 14, 2017, 06:35:23 PM »

I've started experiencing what I guess is yet another weird symptom, just wondering if anyone else has had the same? Now and again I can smell cigarette smoke, no-one else can smell it and we're are a non-smoking family which is really bizarre! It's usually in my front room but today I could smell it in my car!
I know they say this can be a symptom of brain tumour but I've done a little research online and it seems it's not that uncommon in peri/menopausal women. It's not always a smokey smell, a lot of people smell ammonia too.
I will mention it to doc if it doesn't go but I'm so fed up of panicking about every new thing that crops up that I'm trying to just be chilled about it.
Anyone experienced similar?

Hi Kah, I haven't experienced it myself but a friend of mine went through the same thing. She too was worried because she thought it was a brain tumour. After loads of tests they found nothing sinister and it was put down to extreme stress, which she was and still is going through. Maybe for your own piece of mind mention it to your doctor because I know what you mean in this menopausal state we worry about everything, or I know I do.
Hope you go on OK.. All the best x

I've had that but mine was bonfire smoke. Haven't had it for quite a while now come to think of it. It's like the smell was actually inside my nose. Weird.

Yeah I know what you mean, that's how mine is and it sometimes feels like I can taste it! Bizarre!

Oh I had that years ago.  Would walk the house to see if there was smoke anywhere, despite us having alarms  ::).  We don't smoke nor did we have open fires.

My sense of taste alters as the day goes by.  The first cuppa of the day is lovely but by evening, it tastes dreadful  :-\.

Sinuses can cause an alteration in taste and of course, taste and smell are complicated and connected.

When I was pregnant I was obsessed about an awful smell under our stairs which nobody else could smell. After my daughter was born the smell disappeared, can only think that it was due to hormones.
