Brown gunk
« on: August 03, 2017, 07:47:01 PM »

Sorry to be descriptive but does anyone get brown gunk mid cycle? I have had it for a 18 months now - like brown stringy mucus. Been through the Docs / Gyne clinic cycle & none were that concerned although did new Smear/Scan (small 7cm cycst which went) / cervix scope.
Since HRT I have had two cycles where I get it for a good 10 days mid cycle - not enough for a pad but it bothers me that no one has told me what causes it.

Phew thanks. I was beginning to think I was the only one - lonely feeling when you put a 'has anyone had?' post and get views but no replys!

No, you're definitely not alone. I'm getting it a lot with the Evorel patch.

I started my periods when I was 8. For the first 6 months my mum kept asking me if I was wiping my bottom properly as I was leaving brown "stuff" in my undies  :-\ Took her another 6 months to twig what was happening to me.

Gotta admit, it was a horrendous experience for me. I used to start dreading swimming with the school. My mum had informed the male teacher, but he still hit me when he found me in the pool changing room, refusing to go in as I'd started my period on the way there. He acted like he didn't know why I wouldn't go in and started pushing me around and hitting me. I wish I'd had the guts to tell my mother back then. Instead, I'd make excuses to avoid going.

I'm glad it seems so much easier for young girls these days. Now, we just need to make things a but easier for us older gals.

Where are you in menopause Roseneath and what sort of HRT are you on? If you are peri-menopausal and on cyclical HRT then you may well get some bleeding or spotting at the "wrong" time as your own hormones kick in.  Good that you have been investigated and nothing untoward has been found, and that the cyst is not a problem? As well to keep an eye on things though... Hopefully eventually it will settle so that you bleed happens only once per cycle.

I'm just 12 months into peri (I think!). Still get regular periods every month but they come from 23 to 30 days ; average 26.  I started getting the mid cycle brown stuff about 18 months ago; it start about Day 16 and can last for 2 - 5 days - it is very brown rather than red. GP not concerned..talked about thinning womb lining, ovulation mucus and womb ' cleaning itself out'  but it freaked me out. Went to different GP. Had Smear, Colposcopy and Ultrasound. All OK but 7cm normal cellular cyst...waited 6 months...didn't go so went to Gyn specialist. She did another scan (where she put the scope thing inside) and it had gone. So that was that really. Still get the gunk every month. After I went on the Elletre Duet HRT last two months period have been much heavier than normal, it seems to have stirred everything up. This all seems so never ending.

Just an update as I started the 'brown gunk' thread!. After 18 months of me fretting about the brown gunk and many GPs reassuring me that it is just my ' new' peri cycle (after sending me for a trans pelvic ultra sound , smear update and cervix scope things) I have had 3 weeks in a row of no discharge, 3 months of very  little stringy brown mid cycle stuff and last month skipped a period. So now I feel I think they were right ; it is not some on-going problem that is getting worse, it is a hormone related thing that co-incides with peri. I wish I had trusted them rather than had days of anxiety filled, pant peering stress.

My periods seem to consist of a lot of brown gunk.  Brown gunk seems to be a speciality of peri  :-\
