Dizziness
« on: September 14, 2017, 05:09:53 PM »

Hi ladies.

Can someone reassure me that feeling dizzy, and occasionally nauseous at various points in my cycle is normal?  I've been keeping a symptoms diary, and it seems to happen a couple of days after my period has finished.  I'm still having regular periods, but they're now around every 3 weeks, rather than 4 or 5, which they have been in the past.

Thanks
😊

Hi,
I'm still having regular periods although they're changing..just this last month, I had terrible nausea 3 or 4 days before my period arrived. I get 'dizzy' but it's not dizziness just say when I'm stood up I feel a bit unsteady. I have had nausea a lot over the last year or so and it reminds me of the nausea I experienced in pregnancy. I'm sure it is indeed all linked to peri menopause.
Hope this reassures you.

I had hysterectomy five years ago ( kept ovaries). I suffer terrible with dizziness, I have low iron but doc reckons dizziness is part of meno. For me it's the worst symptom by far, it makes me panic even though I have never passed out the fear of it is enough. Used to get it now and again but it's almost persistent the last few weeks.. If anyone finds a cure please let me know  :'(

Hi there,

Thanks for replying. Snooze - I'm the same.  Always get a morning sickness type feeling a few days before, and now this weird dizzy feeling when I'm standing up these last few months.

Yammy1 - sorry to hear you suffer too.  My iron levels were diagnosed as low a little while ago, but have now increased a bit.  The dizziness is more recent, so will assume it's another symptom 😒

Hi Karen,

No it's horrible.  I also get it before, but also sometimes around ovulation.  Hope it passes soon for you.

Yes me too, I get it more around ovulation and the build up to it from high oestrogen levels.

Purple H - if your periods are now happening every 3 weeks - this is absolutely classic for what is known as the "Late Reproductive Stage" according to the STRAW criteria for classifying reproductive ageing - so your hormones will be going up and down somewhat more dramatically and more frequently than before. Sudden rises and falls in either hormones can give rise to side effects. This is a sure sign you are almost at peri-menopause so very soon I imagine that they will start to lengthen again and cycles become more variable in length.

If your dizziness is cyclical then likely nothing to worry about although if you are concerned then do consult your doctor. I found I got dizziness as part of the classic pmt symptoms when progesterone was falling quickly just before my period started. I always used to have a tendency towards low blood sugar at this point which also made me dizzy - especially later morning so had to make sure I had plenty to eat and frequently.

It is recommended to keep blood sugar levels as stable as possible to avoid the worst of this so you may need to eat more frequently, and cut out refined sugar and carbs as much as possible - replacing it with complex carbs, lean protein and some raw fruit. Carry around some nuts and an apple or a banana in case it strikes while you are out or suddenly during/after exercise.

When I was very ill in the early 1990s with sudden drops of blood sugar pre-menstrually, NAPS advised me to eat every 3 hours, 24/7.  That is: a high complex carbohydrate diet.  Not to increase the amount that I was eating but to spread out my meals more often.

I still carry: bananas, dried fruits and nuts, dry biscuits, ginger biscuits, energy bars as well as Dextrose tablets, advised by professional walkers and cyclists in recent years.  Fruit cake is also handy when walking for hours.  Keep hydrated.  I try to eat B4 my body is likely to be hungry .......

NAPS advised me to eat every 3 hours and it really did work for me then and helps stop that dreadful sick lurch I suffer.  At the time I had a puppy who soon learned that there were biscuits by the bed when she came back in the early hours: she couldn't go through the night without needed a pee  ::)

I also have a nerve in the back of my neck which if I move in a certain way makes me go 'oh!' but I can't reproduce it.
