Interesting if you search on this forum for 'backache' and how many complain of this along with anxiety, depression, digestive problems. They could all be copper related. I'm not sure there's anything actually to be done if it is copper dumping due to falling oestrogen. Normally the way to balance copper better in the body is to take zinc but this will mobilise more copper. Gentle exercise, saunas, antioxidants (Vit C and E), avoidance of high copper foods will help. My point was not so much what to do about it, but to point out that there may be a cause for symptoms that scare us, that won't get identified by doctors, and that there may be an explanation for. I have a need-to-know brain! This is not to say that you shouldn't get symptoms checked out, because you absolutely should. But when you have done all that, drawn blank after blank at the doctor's and still have symptoms, this might be something to consider. And it should pass. And it's not life-threatening.

Or it could be pancreatic cancer. Lol. KAH - I am with you in spades. x

My back pain has been moving around today, first on left side, then middle, then round the ribs......I can't keep up but it has made me think maybe it's IBS related. I am very interested in the copper thing though and incidentally I've been trying to eat healthier and have been eating a ton of avocados (as well as the ton of dark chocolate that I consume daily!!) so I'll cut them down and see if that helps. Also I've ordered some acidophilus to see if that helps! Can't say I'm not trying instead of running off to the docs as usual!!!

Oh - any chocolate left ;-) >hands over plate<

Maybe make a note of what you eat on a daily basis and see if there are any triggers?  It's reflux that lays me low, usually at night ........ so I try not to swallow my evening meds too close to laying down!

Hi there

Sorry to hear of your potential digestive problems.

Just in case your problem is pancreas or gallbladder related please don't over do the fats, even if they are good fats! Avocado is incredibly high in fat and this will add to your problems!

Having been there and got the t-shirt with gallbladder attacks which lead to pancreatitis. None of my attacks were text book usually presenting as trapped wind and pain on my left side!

Maybe do as CLKD suggests and keep a diary of what you eat and reactions. Too much dark chocolate late can cause reflux, it's quite acidy.

I found out I had a gallstone as I kept getting a fluttering lower left hand ribs so doc sent me for an ultrasound which then found the dreaded item!

Take care but just keep an eye on yourself!

Thank you wombat62, the pain has kept me awake most of the night, it's now settled behind my ribs at the back on the left, it's agony! Just to make my anxiety even worse, I've had a couple of days of very dark/black poos!!!
Just waiting to see what else can scare the sh*t out of me, I'm a nervous wreck!!!!!

If you are in great pain and having black bowel movements, I do think that it would be wise to see a GP as soon as possible, as that is the advice given for these symptoms.

Hope you will feel better very soon.

Yes I will go on Monday. I thought I'd give the bowels a couple of days to see if they return to normal x

I believe that you definitely need to have a proper medical assessment if you are experiencing pain bad enough to keep you awake plus black stools. Either of these symptoms on their own would warrant it. Although the tests you may be referred for are not pleasant to have they are better than living with the worry that there may be something wrong. Especially if you are worried about pancreatic cancer where speed of diagnosis is very important. Please make an appointment?

No, I've been wracking my brains but I've eaten nothing that would change the colour x

I'm panicking now! Might go to walk in centre although I know they'll probably say I need to go to see my GP. does anyone else find that most of the health anxiety panics happen at the weekend when the doctors surgery is closed!!! I'm sure my subconscious is making the pain worse because I know I can't go and see my GP!!
Hubby says I need to calm the hell down and see if my bowels go back to normal in a couple of days, he said he's had black stools before then they went back to normal. I get so anxious I can't think straight!!  Mind you he's been through this a hundred times with me, I've been so convinced Ive got this and that and so far, alls been fine!

I suppose it depends how bad your pain is - if it's really bad, I would go to the walk-in centre, but if not, then it can wait until Monday.  Maybe phone NHS 111 number and see what they advise, perhaps?
