Unbearable Itching - especially at night? Femoston 2/10
« on: September 04, 2017, 10:02:38 AM »

Hello, hope everyone is getting through this miserable Monday.  I am on Femoston 2/10 and been on it for around 4 months. The first month was fine but noticed recently that all the PMT symptoms are returning, and now I seem to be permanently bleeding with a dull period like ache in lower abdomen.  Not sleeping well either even when on the Oestrogen part of the cycle. But perhaps the most irritating and annoying symptom is constant itching around shoulder area.  The itching becomes so painful and nothing stops it.  I have ended up getting up and putting ice on the area to try and distract me.  Its stopping me sleeping.  Anyone else experience intense itching?  someone told me it could be due to lack of iron.  I keep fit and eat well.  Thinking of asking GP to switch the HRT.

Any advice very welcome. Thank you  ::) :-* :-*

Hi Funfifty

Sorry to hear about your itching and side effects from your HRT.  Not sure whether HRT can cause this although I remember some members with allergic rashes from some of the progestogens.  Could it be the fillers in the tablet?Whereabouts are you in menopause? Maybe a different type would suit you better as you suggest?

Sorry I can't help further...

Hello Hurdity, Thank you for replying. Im 50 and perimenopausal.  The PMT symptoms are getting worse. I now have headaches and can't stop crying. Feel as bad as I did before coming on HRT.  Going to try see GP tomorrow. Thank you x

I can get rashy. I seem to get it from imbalance, I think. I'm still trying to work it out. I have read that estrogen can increase the likelihood of allergies and progesterone reduces it. I did react to femoston. I blew up like a balloon

As anyone who reads my responses knows, there is a thought that as the oestrogen levels drop the body dries: deep in the ears, nostrils, skin, vagina ....... for me it's my insteps, as I step into the bath every night they itch and I've been woken by one ruff heal scratching the instep on the opposite foot many a time!  Maybe use a good moisturising cream B4 the itchiness becomes intense, a friend does this and it has relieved a lot of symptoms.

I had periods of itching across the back of my shoulders, again after my bath - eased by gentle scratching with a long pencil  ::).  That went after a couple of years and the instep irritations are intermittent.

Also, a drop of oestrogen may cause laxity of muscles = aches and pains.

Is it itching, or is there a rash?
