Kilofem bleeding
« on: July 16, 2017, 07:28:21 PM »

I finished Prempak C and was prescribed Kilofem and have bled every day on it so far. Does anyone know if this clears up or should I go back to the doctor?

Hi Imshaw64.

How long have you been on Kliofem for? It can take up to six months for the bleeding to settle down for some women. This is from the patient information leaflet which should reassure you

"Irregular bleeding
You may have irregular bleeding or drops of blood (spotting) during the first 3-6 months of taking Kliofem®. However, if the irregular bleeding:
carries on for more than the first 6 months
starts after you have been taking Kliofem® for more than 6 months
carries on after you have stopped taking Kliofem®
see your doctor as soon as possible."

Some women go back onto sequential HRT because conti HRT gives them problematic bleeding and at least with a sequi (bleed) HRT they knew when to expect it.

Have a browse around the forum. You will find lots of help and advice on here.

Hi Imshaw
I didn't get on with Kliofem for the same reason as you and by 5 months I'd had enough.  I'm using the mirena coil and oestrogel now which works much better for me.  Maybe you're just not ready to go onto the continuous HRT yet - perhaps try another sequential HRT if the bleeding persists.

Hi Imshaw64

 :welcomemm: from me too.

I am wondering how old you are and  if you know where in menopause you are in terms of what your periods and cycle were doing before you started HRT?

I ask because Prempak C is a cyclical HRT - designed for women who are not yet at menopause (ie have not been naturally period free for 12 months) and will give a monthly bleed. Kliofem is for post-menopausal women who have not had a period for 12 months and is designed eventually to be a no bleed HRT except for the first few months as Taz has pointed out. If you are on this and are not post-menopause then it is far more likely that you will have bleeding at the wrong time and you should really have been given the cyclical type to replace the Prempak (unless you have endometriosis in which case docs may start this type of HRT before menopause has been reached, or for some other reason?).
