Natural cycle breaking through the HRT? Advice please!
« on: July 28, 2017, 11:06:21 AM »

Hello!
I am 52 and have been in peri for past 2-3 years (last 2 periods were 6 months apart).
I started HRT 13 weeks ago (started on Evorel 25 patches with 200 mg of Utrogestan for 14 days per month and have now increased to Evorel 50).
After completing the Utrogestan this month I waited for the bleed but instead, 6 days later, I had all the signs of ovulation (for the first time in ages!).
This has put me in a quandary. Should I start the 14 days of Utrogestan this weekend as planned or should I go with my own hormones and see if I have a 'natural' bleed instead?
Is it best to stick to the HRT regime once started or will my body be even more confused taking Utrogestan at a time of month when my natural progesterone levels will be starting to drop?
Really not sure what to do and would appreciate your thoughts and advice especially if you have experienced this.
Hormones, so confusing!
PS after the first 14 days of Utro I didn't bleed at all, on the second 14 days I bleed whilst taking it, still waiting for a bleed after the third time (due to ovulation?) and who knows what might happen next time!?

I would stick to the schedule.  Things should settle.

I have heard that some people don't bleed at all on sequential hrt (but that is not so in my case - I get 7 days  >:(  )

Keep a note of your dates and symptoms for your review.

I would check with your Dr Sue and see what they say.  I know when I moved from the UK to Canada my natural cycle got out of synch with the prescribed cycle.  I subsequently realized that I should have altered the way I was taking the medications (I was made aware of this by another practitioner) - anyway, I didn't realize at the time, and I felt quite unwell for a few months.  So it's always worth checking with a Dr if you can.  I know for me, I had to count the number of days I was bleeding and then start taking the hormones again on a particular numbered day - but, as I said, it got horribly out of synch so I really messed things up!  I also second taking a record of everything - it really helps when explaining things to Drs.
