How do you know if you are having a complete breakdown?
« on: July 21, 2017, 12:00:31 PM »

Apologies for moaning again on here, but have had a complete meltdown today.  OH and I suffered a hideous financial blow a couple of weeks ago which will take ages to resolve [and might not be resolvable] and I have loads of work on [I work from home on writing projects].  My son has gone away to work and doesn't get in touch very often.   My health anxiety has come back big time and is making me fixate on various parts of my body and panic [centred on my tongue this week, but could be something else when that goes]
I am usually [and seen always by others] as a total kick-ass person.  But I am collapsing inside.  My work seems insurmountable, I feel I have little to look forward to but more stress/work and I just dissolved into tears this morning.

Why can't I cope any more?  I feel a real failure.

What support have you had for the financial problem and is it a route that suits you and your OH in order to clear the problem even if that is long-term? [no need to share but have you sat down with him and talked about this on paper with a Professional Advisor]?  Maybe ask for a longer period of time than what has been suggested if this isn't helping the over-all problem?

Shock can cause us to doubt our place in Life.  Maybe make a list of what needs doing this weekend, through next week and the next and put to one side anything else.  Are you coping with the housework for example, is there anything that can be put to one side so that basics are covered, i.e. laundry, washing up; eat out if necessary - buy 2 x 1 ready meals and look for end of line offers to put into the freezer.

That way you don't have to worry about what to eat next.

If you have a large table spread out what is required so that it doesn't look such a large task.  Paper work to be filed in one pile, phone calls on another and tick off as they are done.

When I had a breakdown I couldn't get out of bed .........  :'( and when I did, didn't wash or get dressed: sat.  For hours.  Staring at the walls.

Thanks - we have support on financial issue, it will just take time.

I'm quite good at 'eating the elephant bite by bite' so have my work organised.  I guess I just want it to go away so I can have a good break.

I think you're right about shock.  Thought I was OK but not sure I have taken it all in yet.   Will share when I'm able, as it might help others avoid what has happened to us.

Thanks for caring, that's perhaps what I needed.

Maybe keeping a journal, venting, will also help!  One that you can down-load onto and then shred.  I found it therapeutic!  You can PM me if necessary.

Hello urban chick- please go see your GP. You might need a little help to take the raw edges off.
CLKD has also given you some good advice.
Rant away on here- we can listen and hopefully help. There will be solutions and help is at hand.

Thanks to both of you.  I am seeing GP next week but am loath to ask for tablets as I had a really negative experience with SSRIs two years ago.  I think I will continue to rant and perhaps start treating myself a bit more kindly.   A daily treat perhaps.  Today I will go for an hour with my book and a couple of squares of chocolate, then an early night so I can do the 5k parkrun in the morning.  If I feel up to it.

How rock'n'roll...

be good to yourself. me, I'd just eat the chocolate as I couldn't run the length of myself!
Know what you mean by bad experience with SARIs. I'm the same but now reconsidering something as I can't cope on my own ( now come off HRT )
Maybe your doc could recommend something else?
Either way, I hope you find a manageable solution to your challenges soon. Above all, be kind to yourself x

Sending you

If this news only happened a few weeks ago it still will be very raw and the shock probably hasn't yet let you digest it all ! Give it time and hopefully you will be able to see more clearly a route through it all. It might not be the way you both had planned for the future but unfortunately life has a way of throwing us these curved balls and we have to take a detour. It might take longer but you will get there and could be more stronger for it . Be kind to yourselves and cut yourself some slack . You can always vent here, one day at a time eh.

Lovely posts both,  :thankyou:  Maybe some relaxation therapy? Free.  Brisk walking. Free.  Yoga ...... something different - lessons can be found on the 'net probably  ::)

'run the length of myself'

thanks - am trying to get a grip!  Will post back in a couple of weeks with an update, am giving myself 3 weeks before dentist appointment to try and live with my 'tonguegate' worry [worry about white patch under tongue, looks like tongue has lost its colour!].  If I can't cope in that time, then I will get some ADs.

So - wine tonight and running tomorrow!
