Sleeping
« on: July 18, 2017, 03:37:41 PM »

Forgive me if I'm being naive about menopausal symptoms! I go through phases of sleeping really well or interrupted sleep. I presume it's all connected with menopause?!!  I usually go to bed around 10.45pm and wake around 6.30-6.50. At weekends it could be later 7-7.30 even 8am (but not for a long time). I have been through the 5-5.30am awakening and had to get up, not for a year or so though. Last few weeks my sleeping patterns have been very erratic, including a lot of tossing and turning or sleep for an hour, wake, go back to sleep & so it goes on all night. Even went to bed at 10pm last night as I'd been fighting tiredness for over an hour & still woke at silly o'clock. Yesterday I actually left house before 7am to go swimming, otherwise days feel so long. How do you all cope? Any advice welcome.

Hi there.
I have always loved sleep but hot flushes useto interupt it at times.
I avoid all caffiene, green or herbal teas, lavender on my pillow, lighr clothing and bedding,  snack  before bed. I now sleep like a baby again xx

I'm not coping very well with it at the moment to be honest, been about a year since I slept right through. Wake every hour or two now, it is just my new normal for now. I catch up with sleep at the weekend when I can. I find it easy enough to fall back asleep after a hot flush, it is the adrenaline rushes and vivid nightmares which are difficult to deal with.

Others have said eating regularly and having Horlicks could work, worth a try?

Hi Woodlands & Nearly50 can't blame hot flushes or night sweats. I do drink peppermint tea around 9pm, my last meal is always around 6pm, I have been known to snack on wholemeal toast, nuts or one of my rather yummy homemade biscuits free from sugar, refined flour etc with my cuppa but usually can't eat that late.
