Bloomen Fed Up with VA
« on: June 16, 2017, 11:06:14 AM »

Been on Vagifem for 4 years now and been very happy with it on the maintenance dose and a once a year reload.  I'm now 56 and started with symptoms at 51 I suppose.  Woke up to Monday morning having been absolutely fine with awful burning and urgency symptoms.  Silly me thought it must be an infection, didn't twig it was the VA again.  However, took sample to the doctors for testing and nothing came back although they've now sent to the lab. apparently.  No improvement on Monday despite drinking loads so decided to do a reload.  Still suffering badly today after 4 days of vagifem nightly.  The burning is awful and I'm just so fed up.  No pain on urination so must be VA?  Anyone had this and any tips please or does it just take the full 14 day reload to feel better.  I've seen an advert for Vagisan moist cream and wondered if that would help externally as feeling really sorry for myself and not easy to work.

Thank you.

Reload.
Also you might need a higher dose of vagifem each week if you're just on x2. I use the Estring which is the equivalent of x5 a week.

Are you using two a week? If yes I would up that to a higher amount each week after you have done the two week reload.
I have had VA for about 5 years now and need to use systemic HRT and Vagifem every day plus a bit of Ovestin cream a few times a week to feel comfortable and normal.
The old dose of Vagifem is equivalent to using 5x of the current one each week.
You do have my sympathy, it is an awful depressing condition until you get it under control.

I would also request some Ovestin cream and use on the outside bits a few times a week.

I also began on vagifem alone for 4 years - then I experienced terrible burning and pain- systematic HRT was my only option. I have been on it for over a year and teamed with vagifem and ovestin  ( on outer bits) I'm controlling it ( touch wood ! )

Thanks for the advice and reassurance ladies.  This is a wonderful site.  I will try to get an appointment with the doctor (no easy task) to see if I can get hold of the ovestin cream as well and discuss further. :)

I find that the burning often happens if the flora balance is off in my vagina. I use Multi Gyn Actigel to restore the balance. BV or thrush often takes hold in hotter weather.
I also use SYLK daily alongside regular Vagifem and this helps to keep things healthy.
If the burning starts I drink a glass of water with half a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda morning and evening and this helps to neutralise the urine.
Do avoid caffeine and acidic drinks like cranberry or orange juice. DG x
