How much Vagifem R U using, some ladies need double up there rather than what is suggested: years ago it was delivered 25mg and now it's 10mg?  :-\ - maybe alternate nights put an extra one in?

Also, I find that taking 1/2 Nurofen relieves that feeling of needing to pee - taken with breakfast and again an hour B4 bed-time

Have you got urostemol yet?… or spoken to your GP about maybe trying vesicare?
Are you on systemic HRT? Some of us need both to control things

Don't suffer, get help! There are other things besides just vagifem that can help your symptoms xx

I know this thread is old but wondering if there was a solution.  I am suffering from this for 6 weeks constant urge to pee it started when I had what I'd describe as mild uti symptoms but no infection from lab results but was given 3 day antibiotics  anyway and they worked but symptoms came back 2 weeks later and tried more antibiotics but they didn't work this time  . I'm going about 30 times a day no pain just as soon as I go I need straight away it drives me insanec . I'm 48 and my fsh levels very low at 3.2 but I've definitely been suffering peri symptoms for a while anxiety is so so bad . My Doctor says over active bladder and I even paid to go to a private consultation with a urologist as I've convinced myself I have some awful disease.  He said I don't believe for a minute it's anything sinister and he had seen 1 case of something serious  in a non smoker at my age in 20 years . He said over active bladders.  I'm honestly going mad and my anxiety is so bad over it because I'm convinced there is something wrong. I have had to take diazipam the last few nights just control my thoughts. Any advice would be greatly received.  Thank you x

Hello Molly48, welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear about your urinary problems and it sounds to me as though the infection is still there. Only three days of the antibiotics is not enough, UTIs need at least seven days, and the standard NHS urine testing often does not show infection when there is one. For more information see www.chronicutiinfo.com. There is also a private Facebook group: Embedded UTI Support/Advice Group.

Are you on HRT? There are lots of oestrogen receptors in the bladder and urethra. Local oestrogen such as Vagifem or Ovestin can help.

Please don't worry, there is plenty help and treatment available for these symptoms.

Thank  you jp I'm not on anything for peri as never been properly diagnosed.  I've just been getting on with it and suffering in silence until the urine symptoms started.  I've utterly convinced myself I have something awful I'm so scared I'm actually making myself so ill and my poor family don't no what to do or say . I'm consumed by these thoughts every second . The worst thing I did was Google and that just made everything spiral out of control. The second dose antibiotics didn't work either although they were for just 3 days again. I've no pain or anything just the urge all the time . It's truly awful. I will have a look at the Facebook paget you suggest . Thank you

If the urine has been tested with no growth then it's likely to be atrophy.  'vagifem' can be used every night, occasionally putting two up to keep it under control.  Some ladies find every 3/6-7th night enough.

Obviously neither knows about vaginal atrophy  >:(.  Get some appropriate treatment and use a pain relief 3 times a day for 3 days.  ABs do help pain but don't get rid of the lack of oestrogen.

As oestrogen levels drop so the body may become dry: inside and out - deep in the ears, nostrils, skin, vagina, scalp and muscles may become lax = aches and pains.  Do read the Vaginal Atrophy threads.  Make notes  ;)

Some ladies do have embedded infections which need specific treatments. Many GPs don't consider menopause unless the lady is having hot flushes  >:(

Tnx.  Last time it niggled I used 'ovestin', took 2 Nurofen and went to bed. An hour later I took another Nurofen and 2 hours later used another 'ovestin'.  Eased symptoms, then I used the 'ovestin' every night for 5.

Thanks ladies I really appreciate your replies.  I will speak to my doctor about the things you suggest . The problem is they not seeing anyone so it's just a phone call and last time I was so distressed on the phone as I have convinced myself I some awful disease that the Doctor prescribed valium.  My anxiety is so so bad can't eat or sleep without a valium . Strange thing is I'm only up twice at night to pee so I'm hoping that means the valium is relaxing everything and that means nothing serious.  How would I know if I have atrophy?  I still have regular periods . Its amazing what the mind can do to you it's taking over and I can't control all these awful visions . I keep imagining telling my boys at 16 that I'm sick and I just cry all day I don't know how to control it. All I think about is my bladder all day . I'm so focused on it its awful. My mum and sister keep saying you are not sick this will pass but I just can't cope with the worry xx

Do you have a prolapse which would press on the bladder?

However, how many times are you up in the night and how many times do you pee in the day?  How is your overall liquid intake, remembering both food and fluids?  If the kidneys are restricted of fluids they will work harder, usually at night!

4 me atrophy was like razor blades  :o high up in the vagina  :o  :o

It may not pass without treatment. I had recurrent UTI's for years during peri, particularly brought on by stress (b4 going on holiday when the symptoms started the day before departure and I couldn't get a GP appt.). I only learnt about VA about 3 years ago. Sounds like you need Vagifem (or similar). I started using that 20 months ago. .y UTI's stopped and ,as a by product,  my night loo visits reduced. To relieve symptoms more urgently, try ibuprofen and dissolve a small teaspoon of. Bicarb of soda in water and drink it. Repeat the next day. If i get suspected uti symptoms  now, this usually helps.
Just lately, during lockdown,  my night loo visits have returned a bit. I am going to increase my frequency of Vagifem slightly  to see if it helps.

Hi

I pee about 15-20 time's a day i think I do drink water a lot but have cut down a bit to see if that helped but it's made no difference.  I'm up twice at night but that's with the valium I'm taking . I don't think I have a prolapse.  I did give birth to twins 16 years ago but not had any issues after that. This all started 6 weeks ago. I've literally just been to the loo right there and need again straight away . It's awful . I'm hoping as I'm not getting up much at night that it can't be something serious . Doc says irratable bladder but how would he know. I'm losing my mind . It does seem to be very common though in peri at the beginning.  It all started 6 weeks ago a few days after my partner and I were intimate. ....  I just want the fear to stop xx.

Thanks ladies I have tried the sachets but didn't help..... All my lab culture's come back negative too ..... How can you tell if you have atrophy?  I do sometimes feel very dry down there depends on where I am in the month I think ... I need to get out my head I have ovarian c or bladder c because I'm going to end up cracking up. I just want to stop peeing. It's so hard just now as I just feel left and vulnerable like a lot of people because I can't sit down face to face and discuss with my doctor.  He says if I thought it was serious he would refer me straight away.  He said there would be many more signs .... The worst thing I ever did was Google xx

It's more likely to be atrophy, don't worry about the whys or ifs - get onto the Surgery pronto tomorrow and ask for Vaginal atrophy treatment.  You don't need blood tests or an internal examination.  It won't do any harm and after a few nights you should feel less need to pee and after 2-3 weeks you should realise that you have less symptoms over all.
